Introduction
We view museums and research centers as among our preeminent institutions for learning. They
are places in which our society gathers and preserves visible records of social, scientific, and
artistic accomplishments; in which it supports scholarship that deepens and extends knowledge;
and to which people of all ages turn to extend their understanding of history and society, to expand
their cultural horizons, and to explore scientific phenomena. Yet we know little about how learning
actually occurs in museums.

1. Museum Audience
The museum’s target audience includes:
1. The University community, with particular focus on students and faculty
2. Other universities with whom Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University
(DMMSU) has partnered with.
3. Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMSU) alumni
4. Prospective students
5. Researchers, Academics, Scholars and Retired Professors.
6. Non-University constituents interested in Ilocano Studies and Culture.
2. Museum Objectives
To remind. There are three primary goals of establishing the Center for Ilocano
Research and Kurdita Studies /Ilocandia Museum and Research Center .One is to make tacit
knowledge explicit. There is a discernible need to present a history, culture and academics that
situates the DMMSU. While the museum’s content focus will articulate the rich history and culture
of the Ilocandia, the museum itself will also be an expression of its continued commitment to this
field. The museum should demonstrate this history and culture both in content and in approach.
To teach. A second goal is to actively create knowledge about the history and culture of
the Ilocandia where none existed before in the country. There is the sense that many people both
within and outside the University Community and the Region have no idea the extent of Ilocano
Culture and Tradition . The museum will therefore hope to educate visitors about the
To commemorate. The final objective of the museum is to preserve and commemorate
tacit knowledge of the Ilocano culture, tradition and its rich history.
