Fault Management

Fault Management

This function allows you to monitor the abnormal running of the network on real-time
basis.
You can be notified of the faults through the following:

z Alarm statistics

z Positioning

z Warning

z Redefinition

z Correlation analysis

z Remote notification

Then they can take measures in time to recover the network.

Alarm Display and Statistics

By this function, you can collect the alarms from the managed devices. You can also

check the Trap alarms that have been collected (if supported by the device) and ensure

that the alarm data will not be lost. The alarms and statistics results can be presented in

many forms.

The DMS also supports auto polling of the device. It senses the fault of the device and

generates off-line alarm.

There are two methods to display the alarm: alarm board export and alarm browsing.

z Alarm board export

The alarm board serves as the monitoring board. It displays the total of the alarms

about the devices under control by class and provides a brief view of the fault status.

z Alarm browsing

This function allows you to query the current alarms and the history alarms. For

details, you can refer to the underside Table:

Function Description
Alarm filter You can filter the fault alarms and event alarms by setting the
alarm filtering condition.
The system filters the alarms that meet the condition and
does not save them in the alarm database.
Alarm query You can query by the following items of alarm: object,
function, status and level.
Save the query result in the form of TXT or HTML file and
print it out.
Alarm color display The color of the alarm in the alarm list varies with the level of
the alarm.
You can custom the color.
You can switch to the relevant device node in the topology
according to an alarm.
Alarm topology If there is an alarm sent from the device, the icon of the
display device on the topology will be shown in a very color
according to the level of the alarm.
By the shortcut menu of the device node, you can view the
current alarm of this device.
Alarm position Choose one alarm.
Through this function, you can locate it is which device that
generated this alarm.
Sequencing You can sequence the alarm by field in this list, customize
display field.
The alarm then can be saved as a file or be printed out.

DMS can carry out the statistics according to the conditions of the user.

The statistics items cover the object, name/ID, level, type, generated time as well as

status of the alarm. The statistics can be based on several items at one time.

Audio/Visual Alarm

On the client, DMS offers two ways to prompt audio/video alarm: alarm box and audio

card.

z Alarm box

The alarm box developed by Huawei is commonly used. The user can set the filter

condition for the alarms to be exported to the alarm box.

z Audio card

The sound box prompts the user whenever a new alarm is received. To differentiate

the level of the alarm, the relative sound files are slightly different. DMS supports to set

this kind of correlative ties between corresponding alarms and sound files.

Real-time Alarm Monitoring

An alarm panel is provided to the monitor alarms occurred in the network in real time.

Through the panel, you can view the total number of alarms at any level, and that of

unacknowledged alarms and uncleared alarms.

Alarm Acknowledgement

Both manual and automatic confirmations of the alarm are supported.

Alarm Redefinition

DMS supports redefinition of the original device alarms.

You can reset the alarm level and alarm function so as to change the level of the alarm

displayed in the network, thus emphasizing the concerned alarms.

Alarm Dumping

It is to transfer the alarm history and event history to a file.

The alarm history and the event history are deleted after they are dumped. This saves the

disk space and ensures the efficiency and stability of the system. It supports both

automatic dumping and manual dumping.

Automatic dumping includes auto-dumping of alarm data on the timed basis and that of

overflow of alarm data.

For the former type, the start and end time as well as the dumping period can be set; for

the later type, the overflow filter condition, dumping percentage as well as dumping format

can be set.

Fault Management

Alarm Correlation Analysis

When some faults occur on the device, some other correlative alarms are generated

except the alarm for the reported fault.

Alarm correlation analysis makes the reporting alarm more efficient and makes it easier to

locate reasons for faults.

The main correlation settings are as follows:

z Defining the repeated event

z Setting the intermittent alarm

z Re-defining the alarm and event

z Defining the shielding rule of the alarm and event

Alarm Knowledge Database

The alarm knowledge is the summary of what have been learned from the maintenance

work.

Keep the record of the experience in case of the same fault may come out next time.

Remote Alarm Notification

It is used to notify the remote user of the alarms.

It can also send alarms to an alarm box and transfer alarms to an E-mail box.
