LAKESIDE BAR, A DISTINCTIVE STORE

IN AN ADMIRABLE PLACE

INTRODUCTION
A bar is a retail business establishment that serves alcoholic beverages, such as beer,

wine, liquor, cocktails, and other beverages such as mineral water and soft drinks. Bar also often

sell snack foods such as potato chips or peanuts, for consumption on their premises. The term

bar also refers to the countertop and area where the drinks are served. However, when a bar

serves foods same as those in the menu of restaurants, the bar falls on the type of a 'restobar'.

Restobar, in the easiest manner, is an an establishment resembling both a bar and a

restaurant. Restobars have been one of the famous and rising business in the Philippines. The

latest formal audit conducted by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) revealed that as of the

beginning of 2016, bars & pubs operating in the country increases upto 1450 which contribute

the country about P10.9 billion gross income.

These restobars differ in the aspect of where will it be located. Whether it will be an inside

restobar, which has been really common, or an outside restobar where people may see what's in

there from afar. To place a restobar outside is a little risky business to start, because everything

can already be seen by the customers outside and they needed to have good appearance to

please and persuade them to come.

Hence, building a good outside restobar is a challenge to all who wanted to start this kind

of business. Because of this, the researcher gather informations on how could a simple outside

restobar become a distinctive one and what factors shall affect one's mind in deciding where to

put and how to start their business.

NULL HYPOTHESIS
It is not strategic to put a restobar or a store at an admirable place such as lakeside .

PROBLEMS

1. Does the ambiance and view of the lake has something to do with putting the restobar outside?

If yes how did you say so?

2. Do you think that the food and drinks you offer befits the location and style of your bar?

3. Is it originally planned to have a restobar outside (at lakeside) or you also prefer making it an

ordinary bar (inside bar)?

4. What are the other factors you consider in placing a restobar at the lake side?

5. Is social media a great platform for you to promote your business?

OBJECTIVES

1. To be able to observe if an admirable place has something to do with a distinctive store.

2. To be able to understand how restobars decide on what foods and drinks will they offer.

3. To be able to identify the factors to consider in putting up a restobar.

4. To be able to know if social media is helpful platform to promote a business.


DISCUSSION

Restobars are highly recommended business to start here in the Philippines. However, as

it's number keeps on increasing, one must be able to understand and know what to consider in

putting up this kind of business to make it different from the common one. To give information,

factors and strategies used by the famous "Lakeside Bar" of Brgy. Dela Paz, Biñan City Laguna,

the researcher conduct a study in the said restobar.

The interviewee, which is the co-owner of the restobar, stated that the ambiance and view

of the lake itself has something to do with putting the restobar outside. Since they also live in

Dela Paz, they know how attractive the lake is especially when the sun is setting. Also, they said

that the view itself is already eye-catchy that's why they really think that people will love to watch

it while eating and drinking with their friends, family, love ones and even alone.

Additionally, they stated that choosing the right food and drinks to offer to their customers

is a great matter which should befits on the style and location of their lakeside bar. They chose

to have foods which are usually called 'finger-foods', so that the customers will somehow feel

like having a picnic. As of the drinks, the restobar offered different kinds of alcoholic beverages

and according to the interviewee, they are open for suggestion wherein anytime that the

customer look for some kind of drink they will research about it. They also limited their foods and

drinks to a very much friendly-budget one so that even students may avail it. Their foods includes

nachos, shawarma rice, tacos, onion rings, sisig, and their famous burger bundle with fries and

drinks, etc.
When the interviewee was asked if they also planned to have an inside bar, they answered

'yes', at first they did. But since an outside restobar will need less room in such a way that it won't

need to build or rent a floor, they come up to an outside restobar. Also, the fact that there's only

few outside restobar in Philippines, it pushes them to have one and luckily they have the lakeside

that seems to be a perfect spot.

Number of people who will be interested or hooked by their business is one of the factors

they also consider. The other one is the appearance, wherein they want to have a nature-like

appearance that the lake beside gives off. Lastly, the ambiance, especially at night, is what they

mostly consider. They really want a restobar that will fit to a place wherein the customers will

feel relax and will give them the feeling of wanting to go back again.

Furthermore, putting up a business today always intertwined with the word social media.

Because there's a lot of competitors out there, their customers who usually take pics of the resto

bar and post it to their social medias, gained attention of other people and started to be

interested saying that the Lakeside Bar is really different.

ANALYSIS

To be able to build a good and different type of a business, one must do a research to gain

information, or seek help of some professionals or even just those who already have some

knowledge about it. Having a restobar is not an easy-go business to build. In order to gain the

attention and trust of customers, the place, food, ambiance, music, staffs and all has to prove to

their customer that it isn't just an ordinary bar or a restaurant, it is a distinctive restobar.
Just like any other restobar, the Lakeside bar, offers different kinds of drinks. But what

makes them unique is that they have a short survey form wherein they ask their customers to

write what they want to be added on the menu. According to a study, a good restobar must know

what the customers want to eat and drink, not what does the owner just want to offer. That's

why this small survey gives the customer a satisfaction.

Additionally, the ambiance near the lake sets the mood of every customer. It gives off a

relaxation feeling while they were chatting, eating and drinking with whom they are with. Some

reviews of customers also stated that the staffs are really accommodating that's why they really

like the place. The wind, the view, and the music made by their live acoustic singers composed

all the perfect ambiance.

Moreover, the design or features of the whole restobar is really interesting or what the

millenials always said, it is "instagrammable". Instead of high stool metal chair which are usually

common to a bar, they use wooden chairs and tables good for 4-5 people. This made the

customers feel like they were just having a picnic. Also, since the restobar were surrounded by

beautiful trees, they hang wooden frames with good quotes inside. The whole restobar where

enclosed by small wooden fences giving a backyard feels. These wooden fences are upto their

mini arc. The arc has green and fresh plants hanging in it, it serves as an entrance-like to their

famous wooden bridge that will enable the customers to go close to the lake. Over all, the

features or Lakeside bar speaks of a nature-like mood.

Lastly, the Lakeside Bar used their official facebook and instagram account to enable to

show what does their bar looks like, what have been added to their menus, what promos the
customers may avail, and what events can occur in their restobar (because they also cater

weddings). This make it easier for them to promote their business and gain more attention.

CONCLUSION

In summary, through the study conducted, the researcher were able to drawn the following

conclusions;

First, the foods and drinks that are offer in a restobar should be mostly what the customers

wanted. One cannot make a food-and-drinks-related business that is based on the owners

preference of what to serve. Lakeside bar becomes a different kind of restobar when they started

to open suggestions from customers about what foods and drinks should be on menu.

Second, the features of the restobar are highly distinctive that gained attention of a lot of

customers. It basically complimented its design to the beauty of the lake, showing off the

ambiance of relaxation.

Lastly, social media is now an undeniable easy platform to connect with other people.

Because of this, more and more business used different sns or social networking sites in order to

show off their business and promote it. Obviously, a restobar with a social media is a great idea

for them to catch the attention of customers even from far places.

The study fulfilled the stated objectives wherein; the researcher was able to observe if an

admirable place has something to do with a distinctive store, the researcher was also able to

understand how restobars decide on what foods and drinks will they offer and was able to
identify the factors to consider in putting up a restobar. Lastly, the researcher was able to know

if social media is helpful platform to promote a business.

In conclusion, the researcher rejected the null hypothesis that it is not strategic to put a

restobar at a lakeside. It can be clearly seen that having an outside restobar is already a good

business to start with, and to place it near an admirable place which is the lake side is a great

strategy to hooked more customers.
