They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us, “ Chance The Rapper’s Golden Year”

Based on the subject matter I know That this chapter is going to be about Chance the Rapper. He
makes music that sends messages to the community. He is not afraid to infuse his music with his
believes. He has impacted the younger generation. He has a family of his own. My prediction for
this chapter is that they will be talking about how chance succeeded in the music industry. I think
it will talk about his first concert it will also talk about how his fans affect his career. I think it
will talk about who inspired him to become a singer. Maybe, it will talk about the town he is
from.

External Distractions

● Husband’s soccer game

● People at the soccer game talking to me
● Social media
● Text/calls made to my phone

Internal Distractions

● Will I finish all my homework on time.

● Other homework from other classes.

The authors motivation for writing this piece is to show how much he likes Chance the Rapper.
Also, to show how chance evolved from a dangerous place, but became a great person. Also, to
show that 2016 was competitive in the music industry. To show what kind of person chance the
rapper is in the music industry. I also think his motivation for writing this piece is his love for
music. Another motivation was to talk about how dangerous it was in 2016. His motivation was
also to motivate other people. For example, the people who will read the book. The writer uses
ethos when he writes, “ In live performances, he’s still able to come across as genuinely in love
with the people he performs with, starting with the people he performs with, staring with
admiration at Lil Wayne during a performance of “ No Problem” on the Ellen Degeneres show
(pg.12). This shows ethos by giving credit to Ellen Degeneres and Lil Wayne as credibility.
Also, by showing how he values the people he has collaborated with. The writer uses logos when
he wrote, “ New York and Wondered how to survive it all… “ In June, a gunman massacred 49
people at a gay night club in Orlando (pg.12). He uses this as a logo by showing how dangerous
it was at that time in New York and Orlando nightclub massacre as a fact. He uses pathos when
he writes, “ And then he stayed for a moment longer, and a moment longer, until he seemed to
realize that the cheers weren’t going to stop” (pg.11). This is pathos, because it shows how
excited and happy the audience was at chance first performance. I disagree with the argument he
was talking about because he said it was a scary time in 2016. Their were artists that were
coming up. The writer talks about how dangerous it is to grow up in Chicago as well as New
York there are opportunities in these places to become an artist. I think if you want to become
someone people look up to you will look for your own opportunities. I agree with the writer,
because 2016 was a dangerous year for singers. Their were attacks at concerts. Future artist did
have to work hard to be known. I agree, that you have to work hard to get to a good position in
life. I also, think during bad times good times will come. I also agree that it doesn’t matter what
race you are music is for everyone. As well as sad music being portrayed as happy by the way
the singer interprets the lyrics. I believe good things can happen and a concert for example
different types of people coming together in one place.
