Reflection Paper
During the months of October and November, I observed Ms. Christie Henson’s 7th and
8th grade English class. The way Ms. Henson taught and handled certain situations opened my
eyes. While observing, I learned a new thing every single day. There were so many situations
One thing I have learned from Ms. Henson’s class is that every student is different. Some
students need more attention than others. Students will let you know when they need attention by
acting out in class. Ms. Henson always handled these situations perfectly. When a student was
acting out (or just bad in general) she would let them know that their behavior is not acceptable
in class. She did not raise her voice, but she calmly let them know what they are doing wrong.
Ms. Henson also had a very decorative classroom. She had a lot of things in her
classroom that I plan on carrying into my classroom. She had the objectives on the board every
day. I think this is very important in a classroom. It is important for your students to know what
to expect for the day. She also had inspiring quotes on her walls. I think this is important when it
comes to motivating students. If a student is feeling burnt out and does not have inspiration to
finish a paper, an inspiring quote could help pull them out of their rutt.
Something I really admire about Ms. Henson is the way she teaches. She makes sure that
every student knows the topic before they take a test. When introducing a new topic, she answers
any and all questions that her students ask. A lot of the time, she will let her students work in
groups, which I plan on incorporating into my future class. I think it is necessary for students to
Observing Ms. Henson has made me even more excited to become a teacher. I have
learned things from her that I will never forget. One of my favorite things from observing is that
Ms. Henson is down-to-earth. She is reasonable with her students, which I think is very
important. This experience as a whole has me ready to graduate college and begin my career!
