1. Briefly describe your family's economic background.

I come from a family of 7 and many times we have trouble supporting the house
with necessities like paying rent or the power bill. Growing up I have always qualified
and received free lunch. My Mother is the only one who works to support my family and
this has become challenging for her to give my siblings and I all we need, from clothes,
to food because it’s a struggle for her due to her epilepsy. I have also taken on the parent
role for my 16-year-old sister due to my father and mother separated when I was younger
and there was a struggle with my mom being able to take care of us because of the
condition that she was in. My experiences with my mom really made me grow as a
person.

2. Why would you like to attend college? Discuss your career and personal goals. Are there
any particular circumstances, school experiences, or persons that influenced your
preparation or motivation to attend college (e.g., cultural/financial background, family,
teachers, schools you attended)? Please explain.
Being one of the few to attend college would be a great thing to accomplishment
or just making my Momma proud would mean the world to me. As a kid I always wanted
to do something in the medical field, I just always felt good about helping someone or
something. My motivation to strive to get to my goal as a Neurosurgeon is my Mom. She
was diagnosed with epilepsy due to a head injury because of domestic abuse, yet she
doesn’t let that control her and she always has a positive mindset that nothing is wrong
with her. Seeing her live a strong independent life motivates me so that one day I can
help her.

3. Briefly discuss your academic background. Did you utilize any additional support at your
high school, such as tutoring? Do your grades in high school and/or college reflect your
academic ability or potential?
My academic background does not reflect my academic ability. My sophomore
year was a good year because I did have a little more time. But during my junior year, I
went downhill. I had little time to do anything, I had to work, I ended up quitting football
but that didn’t really change anything. I had to take care of my mom because there were
times where she could not take care of herself because of her epilepsy. All of these things
happened and it limited me from completing my work and letting me give my very best
in school, however, I always tried to make up for my work by going to tutoring or getting
an agenda to help improve my time management.

4. List any volunteer, extracurricular activities, or work experience in which you are or have
been involved in the past two years.
I am a very active student. I’ve been involved in Football and Volleyball program
for 4 years. I have also worked as a Parking Attendant with my Dad through the summer
but stopped because of school. I have also volunteered at a local Animal Shelter where I
had a great connection because I LOVE ANIMALS! My experiences with programs,
work, and volunteer work has made learn how have time management, to be committed
to the things I get involved with, and to always give everything I do 110%.

5. Is there any additional information you would like EOP to consider in determining your
admission to the program?
I would say that my best qualities are time management, hardworking, leadership
skills, and ability to adapt. I can manage to maintain school work, school clubs,
volunteering, work at the same time. Since English is my second language, I worked very
hard to get into my American Literature Honor class and academically get to where I am
right now. I am the second youngest in the family; I learned most of my independence
from raising my little sister and helping out my mom. Working and all my programs also
help me in gaining more and more leadership skills. I fit in very well socially, I have
many friends and people see me as out-going.
