Type 1 Corrosion non-Platinum/Aluminide coated blades, 9997M23 and M35P01

Occurs where NaSO4 (sea salt) is abundant in the atmosphere

CFM56-3 HPT blade summary 737CL / CFM56-3 WTT

CFM56-3 blade considered the “Industry Standard” in design and durability

• Distress reports show high CSN blades with many repairs
– -pre 1994 production dates
• Airfoil loss of material can be inspected on-wing
– 2000 hour inspection interval - CFM recommendation (CESM No. 05)
• If questioning a blade set age, submit SNs, part# , ESN, to the CSC
– CFM can approximate the CSN
• If corrosion is seen on airfoils, recommend to install 1475M35P02 PtAl coated
blades or 2084M33P02 TOW blade (SB 72-1022)
Fleet management recommendations for HPT blades
• Track blade hours/cycles and the number of repairs – record and monitor
• Install “like” cycle blades in a single engine rotor set
– A set is limited by its oldest date
• Establish rotable pool of blades
• For maximum benefit install new blades in sets
