even in clear air when humidity is high.

11. Name the classification of induction system icing.

Ans: Fuel evaporation ice/carburetor ice, throttle ice, impact ice.

12. What is fuel evaporation ice?

Ans: Caused by decrease of surrounding air temperature due to

vaporization of fuel in carburetor. In the venture, the higher the air velocity,
the lower the temperature up to 30F.

13. Under what condition that the optimum carburetor ice occurs?

Ans: It exists when outside air temperature is between 30F and 40F, and
relative humidity is above 60%.

14. In which area in induction system that impact ice is likely to occur?

Ans: Most prone and common areas are Air intake and Air filter.

15. How could the induction system icing be detected?

Ans: Fix-pitch propeller: decrease in engine power is indicating by drop in

RPM and engine roughness.
Constant speed propeller: decrease in engine power is indicating by
decrease in manifold pressure without changing in RPM.

16. What is the purpose of Carburetor Heat System?

Ans: when placed ON, it draws the unfiltered air from engine cowling
through heater muff, the warm air then directs to carburetor air box to melt
the ice.

17. Name the methods of Induction System ice removal.

Ans: Carburetor heat system, Spray deicing fluid, Alternate air supply.

engine cylinders.

c) To increase the compression pressure.

d) To sustain maximum power at high altitude.

19. Where is the Supercharger located?

Ans: Its fitted between fuel metering device and intake manifold.

20. What is the purpose of manifold pressure gauge?

Ans: The manifold pressure gauge is an engine instrument typically used in

piston aircraft engines to measure the pressure inside the induction system
of an engine

21. State the disadvantages of Supercharger?

Ans: Supercharger consume large amount of engine power output for the
amount of power increase they produce.
