Introduction
I heard a loud mourn inside the door and the first thing comes out in my head is a cat's
cry as its usual thing. A wife's cry has never been a normal event to witness.

According to study.com, Battered woman syndrome is a mental condition that typically

appears after a woman suffers years of abusive at the hands of a partner. Dr. Lenore Walker is
credited with labeling this syndrome, one which she claims has a distinct pattern of abuse occurring
in three phases:

• Phase 1: The relationship between partners becomes strained and the woman might see a
potential threat.
• Phase 2: The woman is mentally or physically assaulted and might show injuries.

• Phase 3: The attacker apologizes, asks for a second chance, and assures the attack will
never happen again.

It's Dr. Walker's assertion that once a woman goes through these three phases twice or
more, they're prone to developing battered woman syndrome, where they actually believe they are
the ones who are instigating the violent behavior of their partners. Women who are battered are
also concerned about their safety, and the safety of their children, and often relinquish total control
to the abuser willingly.

According to definition. uslegal.com, Battered woman syndrome is a criminal offense

that involving a pattern of psychological dependency among women caught in long-term
relationships with abusive male partners. Over time, abuse produces an irrational mental state of
"learned helplessness," limiting free choice and placing victims of abuse in a spiral of conflict that
occasionally results in a violent and sometimes fatal response over which they have no rational
control.

In the book, The Revised Penal Code Criminal Law (1993). “Battered Woman
Syndrome” refers to a scientifically defined pattern of psychological and behavioral symptoms
found in women living in battering relationships as a result of cumulative abuse.

Based on the preliminary findings of the 2017 National Demographic and Health Survey
(NDHS), one in four (26%) ever-married women aged 15-49 has ever experienced physical, sexual
or emotional violence by their husband or partner. One in five (20%) women has ever experienced
emotional violence, 14 percent has ever experienced physical violence, and 5 percent has ever
experienced sexual violence by their current or most recent husband or partner.
Humans consistently treat women as a precious gem but what if there are few people who
treat them differently? This study assumes that the violence they receive from their partners is a
key factor that defines a battered woman syndrome.
