Librarian's Role
in Social Media
Librarian's can:

Teaching & learning. Websites such as Youtube are


great for gathering new information, to educate
yourself as well as educating users. Libraries can use
social media platforms to post insights into specific
materials and collections, to educate as well as
promote what is available.

Mobile technology has become boon to the
libraries. A library may reach the remote users
effectively by adopting of mobile apps and
mobile technology in its service. Mobile phone
are inevitable tools for information
communication.

Mobile phones : are not only a phone portal to


mobile outreach. library and information
professionals who used more traditional
cellphones can consider text reference for their
mobile outreach programs.
Electronic textbooks : E-readers and tablets
have new features that allow students to
highlight and add annotations to the text, just
as they would with paper texts.

E-readers: take content delivery to new levels,


allowing for wireless browsing, purchasing,
and delivery of content trough these devices.
MP3 Players : An iPod 0r MP3 player mobile
device can use in library for audio and/or video
tours. With MP3 player, users can explore the
librray at their convenience, concentrating on
parts of the collection most relevant to their
needs.

Tablets : Tablet PCs can be used in various


activities for example searching database,
downloading articles,and perusing the catalog
either through apps or tablet-formatted
websites.
Libraries use social media to fulfill a range of objectives, with most focused
on promotion (visibility for and usage of the library service and resources).
Librarian can share seminar, conference, workshop’s information on social
media to aware library professionals and it is very good platform to
marketing library events on social media like Facebook, Google+, Twitter
and Linkedin.

The mobile applications and technology has changed the way one
connects and interacts with the world and mobile library services can
meet people’s needs for information in a fast-paced society. Libraries
are moving forward in providing access to digital collections via
mobile devices. In the near future, more and more people will be able
to experience digital collections in the library
