ANATOMY RESOURCES

RESOURCES FOR DRAWING AND STUDYING ANATOMY

Below you will find multiple resources to assist you in the study of human anatomy. My personal advice
is to have actual anatomy books (digital or print) such as those recommended below, and then
supplement that knowledge with websites, web apps and mobile applications as needed.

RECOMMENDED BOOKS FOR ANATOMY STUDY

Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth

https://www.amazon.com/Dynamic-Anatomy-Expanded-Burne-Hogarth/dp/0823015521

One of my most used books for studying anatomy, the images and labels are very clear, and each
anatomical body is boldly illustrated. A classic and a great resource. Mainly focuses on Musculature and
surface forms.

Anatomy for the Artist by Sarah Simblet

https://www.amazon.com/Anatomy-Artist-Sarah-Simblet/dp/078948045X

Large clear images with semi-transparent overlap pages help the artist understand the surface level as
well as the muscular and skeletal systems below them. The illustrations are massive (as is the book) and
there are fantastically detailed full body images too for surface level study. A great all-around book.

Anatomy Drawing School Human by Andras Szunyoghym & Gyorgy Feher

https://www.amazon.com/Anatomy-Drawing-School-Human/dp/3848004739

A comprehensive look at detailed human anatomy primarily focused on the skeletal system and the
musculature layers. Great images and a nice size. Excellent for learning, and also great as an
accompaniment to Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth.

Classic Human Anatomy: The Artist's Guide to Form, Function, and Movement

https://www.amazon.com/Classic-Human-Anatomy-Function-Movement/dp/0823024156

Another fantastic book covering many facets of anatomy, with a strong focus on skeletal and
musculature anatomy, as well as a section on anatomical movement.

3D ANATOMY WEB APPLICATIONS

Zygote Body: https://zygotebody.com/

An amazing 3D web tool with a modern user interface and easy navigation, browse in-depth 3D models
of the skeletal system and musculature here. Fantastic and resource that is completely free, and all
anatomical bodies are labelled well.

Inner Body: http://www.innerbody.com/

Very similar in many respects to Zygote body, however presented in a smaller window on the site. Still a
great resource.

MOBILE APPLICATIONS

Biodigital Human:

Both apps feature posable models that include skin and muscle layers, however the applications do not
label the anatomy. Still great for getting dynamic views and posing the bodies as you need.

Handy: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/handy-art-reference-tool/id478643661?mt=8

A great tool for studying the hands in dynamic poses and at any camera angle you can think of.
