INSTRUCTION:

WARM UP (Introduction, opening activity, activation strategies…):

Vocal warmups (ooh and ah). Question to students: What are some things in our lives
and in school where we see words that have the same like sound? (Lead students
towards the answer of rhyming words). Today we will learn a song about stars and
rhyming words.

MIDDLE (steps of your lesson):

1. Teacher- sings/models verse 1 of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
2. Students snap/clap to the beat of the verse 1 and learns song through modeling of
teacher, echoing pairs of lines, and then the entire verse 1.
3. What rhyming words did you hear in the song? (star and are, high and sky).
4. Practice having students, 2 or 3, come up with examples of rhyming words.
5. Divide the class 4 groups of 4 students in each group. Students will be given a set of
rhyming word stars (there are two different sets) that they must mix up and flip over.
They will then pick up two stars and see if they match. If they do not match, then they
will flip the cards back over and let the next player go. If the cards do match, then the
player keeps the cards and goes another time. The first person to have the most
matches wins! (if there is extra time, students may switch cards with another group
who has different cards then they do).
6. Play and sing again (may not have time in demo but would do this in a full class
session).
7. Move back to desks and prepare for review and dismissal.

WRAP UP/REVIEW/CLOSURE (How will you close your lesson? Include any
review questions you might use):
Teacher asks students what other rhyming words exist?
Where else can rhyming words be found?

REFLECTION: (To be completed after you teach. What would you keep, change, or
modify in your lesson if you taught it again? This part is for you. It does not need to be
submitted to your instructor).
