My original goal coming into college was to graduate with a forensics degree, go to
medical school, and become a Doctor without borders. Throughout my freshman year I was
involved in the EXCEL program for stem majors. I had this plan cemented in my brain since
middle school. However, that vision was revised when I had a few issues throughout my first
year. I had taken many duel-enrollment and AP credit classes in high school, giving me credits
for most gen-ed classes. This left me with very intense schedules my first few semesters in
college. The EXCEL program assigned us our science and math classes, leaving no option in
regards to professor or class times. Despite having already taken AP calculus in high school, I
still struggled with the course, specifically dealing with the professor’s teaching style, and ended
up withdrawing from the course. I attempt to avoid taking calculus again, I switched my major to
Interdisciplinary studies. I hoped this way I would have more flexibility in my course selections
as my faith in the path I had laid out for myself wavered. I am still on the path for medical school
and plan on applying to multiple schools out of the country.
