Final Reflection

This semester, I’ve had the chance to write in a lot of different styles and write

about a lot of different topics. I think it is very effective to learn to write in all these different

ways to expand our abilities to write more advanced in the future. At the beginning of the

semester, I was used to writing about books or poems we had read and analyzed in class. I didn’t

really know how to write about myself or topics that were more relaxed and specific to the

student. With assignments like the introduction letter and memoir, that gave me a chance to be

able to really open up about myself. I like how we also had the opportunity to write about

specific times in our life and to think back to what we were feeling in those moments.

At the beginning of the semester, I was a little nervous not knowing what to expect with

the class, but ready for any challenges. English had been one of my strong classes in high school

because I enjoyed writing about topics that we would discuss in class. As a person, school was a

very big priority and I continually made A’s in my classes. So earlier this semester, I was

determined to focus in the class and do the assignments I was given. At the end of the semester, I

realized that writing comes fairly easy to me, and being in this class has made me more confident

as a student. I wasn’t used to writing about myself but found that it came easier to write about

myself rather than a book we had to read in class.

Coming into college as a freshman, I set a lot of goals for myself. Some of those goals

include going to class every day, studying ahead of time, and taking good notes. I also wanted to
make sure that I was getting enough sleep and checking for homework every day. At the end of

the semester, my goals and behaviors haven’t changed very much, but I didn’t realize how hard it

would be to juggle every single class and making sure I haven’t forgotten any deadlines. I knew

college was going to be a little bit harder and requires discipline and responsibility. But after

going through a whole semester here, I found that keeping up with assignments and making sure

I stayed attentive made college so much easier. So, after going through this first semester, I know

that I am more prepared than ever to take on the second semester.

At the beginning of the semester, my strengths included taking good notes and getting all

my work done for every class I attended. My weaknesses were going to bed on time and

procrastinating. School has always been important to me, and I always tried really hard to make

an A. But I do struggle with trying to do everything at once, and not getting nearly enough sleep

which makes it incredibly hard to get up in the mornings. Now at the end of the semester, my

strengths are checking for any assignments I have and doing them right away, so I don’t forget

the deadline. My weaknesses at the end of the semester stay the same where I struggle to be able

to make myself so busy with work that going to bed on time is less important to me.

To conclude, this semester has showed and taught me a lot about what to expect for the

rest of my college years. I know that there will be behaviors and techniques that I carry out to

next semester, but I have learned what not to carry with me as well. I have learned that I like to

write about things that pertain to me instead of being forced to write about stories and poems. I

like how this semester we were given a wide range of options on what we want to write about.

That makes writing more enjoyable to me, and not some pointless writing assignment that makes

kids dread writing English papers. When it is about yourself, it makes you feel like you can put

more meaning into the paper. Some tips I want to remember is to not hold back on what you
want to write about, and to have the opportunity to express yourself and your writing skills.

Behaviors I want to carry forward is going to every class every day, taking good notes, preparing

for tests ahead of time, and getting to know the instructor.
