PODCAST PLAN

Mental Health
Lauren Musil October 8, 2019

Description
My podcast is about anxiety and how to deal with it in college. Often times people tend to
procrastinate which in turn causes more stress and anxiety on a person. Schoolwork takes up more
time than most students prepare for and when it is put off every day until the day before it is due, the
situation becomes very stressed. College in general is also just a very stressed environment. It is
such an adjustment to a freshman whether they are going to an in state school or an out of state
school and that can cause a lot of anxiety. In my podcast I am going to make it known that it is so
normal to feel that way, and share some of the ways I have dealt with anxiety in college so far.

Title of Podcast
Let’s Talk About Anxiety

Podcast topic
The topic of my podcast is how to deal with anxiety in college.

Genre of Podcast
The general genre of my podcast is mental health. I am talking about anxiety in college and that fits
into the mental health category because anxiety is a mental health disorder. Anxiety is a body’s
reaction to stress which causes fear about what is about to happen.

Description of Host
Hey there! I am Lauren Musil and the podcast will be hosted solely by me. I would consider myself
as super friendly, funny, and thoughtful. I am from Scottsdale, Arizona and have lived here my whole
life. I love to hang out with friends and go on fun adventures. I have always been an anxious person
but high school made it a lot worse. Throughout high school I was a big procrastinator, which caused
me a lot of anxiety, and I am still trying to figure out was to help myself and not be so anxious all of
the time.

Estimated Length of show

This podcast will be about 10 minutes long. I feel that this is a proper time length because I am only
speaking on my struggles and how I help myself. I am not a doctor and will make sure that I make
that clear to my audience because I won't be giving medical advice in any way. I think that it is
important for people who deal with the same thing to hear other peoples' stories of how they deal
with anxiety because sometimes hearing suggestions from a doctor can be disheartening. I am
creating this so my audience knows that they are not alone if they are going through the same thing,
and if they are not maybe they can gain some knowledge on the topic of anxiety.

Proposed Frequency of show

My podcast will be monthly because that will give me enough time to round up any questions that
listeners may have from the previous show. I also feel as though that gives the audience enough
time to reflect on what I said as well as implement some of my suggestions into their routine.

Podcast Format structure

1. Intro music with greeting

2. Introduction of topic
3. Past struggles with anxiety
4. Helpful ideas with how to cope
5. Everyone deals differently!
6. Helpful tip of the month
7. Twitter shoutout of the week
8. Wrap up / preview of next show
9. Outro

Script vs Outline
I will use an outline of topics because I know my story will be more authentic that way. I want to
make my audience feel as though I did not just write every little detail down and read it off a piece of
paper. I want my podcast to be authentic and real, which is why I will be discussing anxiety on my
own. I think that if I had a guest or two I would end up straying away from the point that I would like
to make. It is so important for me to be able to talk about my struggles and how I work through them
exactly the way I would like to.

Cover Image
My cover image represents how the brain can continue to grow and change even while dealing with
mental health issues. It shows that there can still be positivity and that mental health and anxiety
does not have to take over one’s whole life. It represents my podcast because in the beginning I talk
about how mental health took over my life for a bit, but I soon found a way to work with it and grow
with it.
Additional Comments Rationale

Anxiety is a very real illness that I do not feel many people are actually aware of. In this day an age I
think more people understand what it is but still cannot grasp what it is like to deal with it on a daily
basis. I hope to bring more awareness to others through my podcast.
