STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE GOAL(S)

Professional Goal #1

 Having the students out of their chairs at least once during the lesson.
 Keeping track of students by using sticky notes or using a template that has students
discuss what their interests are allowing myself to include their interests in the lesson.
 Making sure I am accounting for all three types of learners when making lesson plans.

Professional Goal #2
 Using group work in at least one lesson a day to create inclusiveness within the class.
 Asking students how their weekend was and what was something new they learned
outside of school.
 Learning students’ names so they recognize the effort I will take to teach and learn
alongside them.
 Talking and asking questions about students weekend and what they found fun.

RESOURCES TO BE USED
Professional Goal #1:

 Discussing with my teacher associate about the interest of students and how I could
create lesson plans around those interests.

 Alberta Learn (http://www.learnalberta.ca/Home.aspx) Using the interest of students

and Alberta learn resources to create a lesson that is engaging for students.

 Alberta Teacher Association (http://atozteacherstuff.com)

http://www.canteach.ca/elementary/physical9.html The second website provides a
lesson plan for grade fives that have students figure out what liquids are acidic or basic.

 There are files within the school I can use to help create engaging lesson plans.

 Students are comfortable with answering questions that I ask without hesitation.
 There is a form of respect the students and I have inside and outside the classroom.

REFLECTIONS AND IMPLICATIONS

Summative reflections:

- With my first goal, I learned to take material given by my teacher associate and take my
own spin on it. I would take pieces from what my teacher associate had for specific
lessons that I was teaching, but majority of the time I was coming up with different ideas
to attempt at getting the students engaged or interested. At the beginning of the
practicum I was spending large amount of time working on lesson plans and ended up
staying late at the school. I was slowly developing faster lesson plan skills while keeping
the same quality throughout all my lessons. I believe I was successful because of my
indicators of success. My teacher associate noticed that I was spending less time at the
school but still keeping the right amount of detail when it comes to lesson planning. In
many lessons I tried to have the students engaged and become active learners,
however in some lessons instructions were not clear enough causing some confusion.
Thinking on the fly and using some techniques learned in class, I used those techniques to
help clear the confusion. On a daily basis I talked to my teacher associate about what
they thought of the lesson plan. They would provide feedback on what they think of the
lesson and if I need some extra guidance they were always willing to help me out.
- With my second goal, I used a number of my strategies to achieve my goal, like, asking
the students questions about their days outside the classroom, saying good morning to
the students, or/and knowing every students name by the end of the day. These
strategies allowed me to have a strong relationship with my students where I can have
funny conversation with them about events outside of school or if there was an issue
students were comfortable with approaching me. Even with the funny conversations, the
students knew that if I asked to move on, the class would respond by moving on, and get
serious about the topic that was at hand. Overall, I think I create a positive relationship
with each student.
