11. The Frog Family Story Text - Basic

Picture 1

Here is the frog family, sitting by a blue pond on the green grass in the sun. They are
eating insects. Mmmmm, delicious!

Picture 2

Here is mother frog. Hello mother frog!

"Hello", says mother frog.

Use a frog-like voice! Place the picture of mother frog by the pond.

Here is father frog. Hello father frog!

"Hello", says father frog.

Make frog noises! Place father frog by the pond.

Here is brother frog. Hello brother frog!

"Hello", says brother frog.

Place brother frog by the pond.

Here is sister frog. Hello sister frog!

"Hello", says sister frog.

Place sister frog by the pond.

And here is baby frog. Hello baby frog!

Place baby frog by the pond.

Father frog says, "Oh boy, I'm hot. I'm very, very hot."

And he jumps into the pond, into the cool water. SPLASH! Here it is nice and cool
and he swims and swims.

Place father frog in the pond.

Then mother frog says, "I'm hot, I'm very, very hot."

Father frog says: "Come in."

So mother frog jumps into the pond. SPLASH! And they swim and swim.

Place mother frog in the pond.

Continue, repeating the above dialogue each time, with brother, sister and baby frog
until all the frogs are in the pond and show picture 7, with the whole family in the
pond.

Here is the frog family swimming in the blue pond.

Now father frog is getting cold and he says, "I'm cold, I'm very, very cold."
He jumps out of the pond.

Take father frog out of the pond and place him on the side.

And now mother frog is cold. "I'm cold, I'm very, very cold" she says.

"Come out!" says father frog, and mother frog jumps out of the pond and onto the
warm grass.

Take mother frog out of the pond and place her on the side.
Continue until all the frogs are out of the pond.

"I'm hungry" says brother frog. "Let's eat some insects!"

And the frog family eat insects by the pond.

Optional: give out jellybeans for the children to eat.

Two extra story illustrations are included of grandfather and grandmother frog. These
can be used on later readings of the story so as not to introduce too much new
vocabulary in one go.
