The Mayo Clinic is one of the leading facilities for research when it comes to women’s

heart issues. More than one in three women is living with some form of cardiovascular disease

and it is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. One of the complicating

factors for this issue is that the symptoms for heart attacks vary based on the gender, women may

have a harder time diagnosing this particular issue. Based on research conducted at the Mayo

Clinic we’ve concluded that the main symptoms of heart attacks in women are based on

everyday symptoms such as: neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back or abdominal discomfort, shortness

of breath, pain in one or both arms, nausea or vomiting, sweating, lightheadedness or dizziness,

unusual fatigue, and indigestion.

This campaign and class is designed to help educate women on symptoms related to heart

disease and to educate them on preventative care. Since most patients assume the main symptom

of a heart attack is simply chest pain, we are working diligently to try and educate all our patients

of the varying factors that come into play when it comes to heart attacks with women. With this

mission in mind, the Mayo Clinic will be conducting health education classes for women
notifying them of warning signs in developing heart attacks and how to live a healthier lifestyle

in an attempt to combat heart disease.

The main focus in communicating this campaign is to notify patients of this new

education course that is being implemented. The three key publics that we hope to address within

this campaign will be the medical staff, patients, and research consultants. By creating these

classes, we hope to form life-long relationships with our patients to help inform them of

preventive care and gain a trust that will allow them to visit our facilities for all their health care

needs.

The Mayo Clinic currently hosts a Healthy Living Program within our facility where

qualified professionals create a personalized, immersive experience for those looking to improve

their nutrition, physical activity and resilience. With the addition of our new “Heart Health”

class, it is the hope of the Mayo Clinic that helping improve these factors will combat some of

the diseases we see on a daily basis with our patients.

As we continue on with this new course, we will conduct research to see how this

information is affecting and improving their health. Based on the results of our new program, we

will be able to communicate our efforts to our other facilities and they can replicate our program

for their own patients. The staff will be updated with research results and will be able to

implement them in furthering treatment for those who are taking these classes and interested in

the study. It’s our hope that in communicating the findings of this study, we can increase our

knowledge of women’s heart issues and work towards better preventative measures.
