SMART Goal: (Define your professional teaching goal. Align to the criteria listed
below.)

Teach either US History or World History in the PVUSD school district.

Specific
§ What is it exactly that you want to accomplish?
This semester I want to grow as a teacher as much as possible, learning from my lead teacher’s
experience and strategies. I also hope to network at my school, since I am interning at the PVUSD
district, meeting people that can help with connections for a job in the future. Using both last year’s
internship, as well as this year’s I want to begin to develop which strategies and styles that fit me best as
a teacher.

Measurable
§ What concrete indicators will you use to measure progress toward your goal?
§ How will you know when the goal has been met?
Score 3’s on my professional development rubric at the end of the year. I will also read the feedback
from the teacher, showing that I have grown from my previous year of internship teaching. I will know my
goal is met at the end of the semester when I see what I have been scored by the lead teacher.
Networking wise, I want to make sure I meet administrative staff such as the principle, vice principle,
along with other personnel that may help in the future towards getting a job in one of the schools in the
district.

Achievable
§ What data or evidence do you have that the goal is ambitious yet attainable?
§ Do you have the resources to reach your goal? (time, technology, support,
etc.)
The requirements on the various professional rubrics give me concrete details on what is expected of a
teacher, so working on getting those up to 3’s by the end of the year. I also have the resources of my
lead teacher, professors, and counselors, to help should I feel I need it or am stuck on how to do attack
something. I do have the time as well, as I am going into the classroom where I can hone my skill set, and
work on my weaknesses. Last year, my lead teacher introduced me to the administrative staff, so I will
hopefully get that chance again and use that resource I the future when attempting to get a job.

Relevant
§ How is the goal worthwhile and significant?
§ What proof do you have that this is meaningful?
§ What purpose does it serve in your professional or personal life?
This goal is worthwhile, as it will lead me to become a better teacher. I believe it is achievable because I
got 3’s on the rubric last year, I just want to expand those skills as much as possible. I see my teachers
that I looked up to following a lot of this skills set out on the rubric, so I feel it is worthwhile, if I can
become like them. Networking is very relevant to the goal at had, as it helps towards my future goal of
becoming a teacher in the district. There is always a need for teachers I the district, so networking may
give me a better chance to get a job quickly. I know a teacher at one of the schools who got hired still as
an intern so I know its relevant ad significant.

Time-bound
§ What is the deadline for completing the goal?
§ When can we expect to see some short-term progress towards the goal?
§ When will we strategically measure for progress in relation to the larger goal?
This goal will cover the length of the internship, from first week of September to the first week of
December. The short term progress will be measured by the midterm lead teacher evaluation, where I
will be scored. The measurements will take place at the mid term and final of the internship.
