ROADMAP TO MASTER QUANTITATIVE

APTITUDE FOR
SSC CGL 2019
The Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) is conducted by Staff
Selection Commission (SSC), which opens the door of a bright and
promising future for the candidates. Every year lakhs of candidates
appear for this exam, but only a handful of them are able to achieve
their dream.

This exam tests a candidate’s knowledge in various subjects (English,

Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and General Awareness) at multiple
levels. Among all the subjects, Quantitative Aptitude can play a major
role in deciding the fate of a candidate.

With 50 marks (25 questions) in Tier 1 and 200 marks (100 questions) in
Tier 2, Quantitative Aptitude amounts to 250 marks out of 700, roughly
36% which is capable enough of making or breaking the game for any
candidates.
NO WORRIES!! Our team has brought a foolproof strategy to master
Quantitative Aptitude section. We are sure that by the time you
complete reading this article all your doubts will vanish in thin air.
1. Getting the basics right :–
The first mistake every aspirant makes is
jumping on to the questions without
learning the basics of the
chapter. Basic theory serves as a
foundation on which the building of our
whole preparation will stand. Similar
topics must be done together like
Percentage, Profit & Loss,
Discount. Concepts of Ratio &
Proportion and Mixture and Alligation
overlap, so these can be done
simultaneously.
2. Previous year Question Papers :–

Preparation for any exam is incomplete without

previous year questions. They act as a mirror to
a candidate’s preparation. You must have a set
of minimum 5 years previous question papers
with you while studying. Every time a theory of
a chapter is completed, look into these question
papers to check the level of questions asked.
3. Advanced Math Section :–

The advanced math questions are a NIGHTMARE to

many candidates. No doubt, sometimes they are
tricky but regular practice can help us to overcome
this fear. Everyday proper time must be given to both
arithmetic and advance sections. The more you will
delay the advance math topics the more they will look
daunting.
Some of the important topics to look for:
•ALGEBRA - Learn algebraic identities by heart.
Practice concept based simplification.
•2D 3D MENSURATION- Learn formulae for volume, surface
area, total surface area etc.
Practice imagining/drawing figures asked in question
•TRIGONOMETRY- Learn identities and corresponding
values.
Simplification is mostly based on identities.
•GEOMETRY- This includes circles, triangles, rectangle and
other 2D figures. Make short notes and read them as many
times as possible.
4. Calculations!! Speed Up :–

SSC has shown some deviance in 2018 Tier 2

Quantitative Aptitude paper, but the concepts
behind the questions were same. They were a
bit more calculative and were taking more time
to solve. To cover this aspect, one must learn
squares, square roots, cubes and cube roots.
The tables, 40 X 40 should be on tips. This will
help you to save some time from every
question.
5. Mock Tests: -
While you are going through the theory of each topic,
try to solve mini mocks of that topic. This will help
you to check your progress.
Only after you have completed all the topics, start
attempting full mock tests with timer intact. Try to
give your room a real exam centre like conditions with
no disturbance from family and mobile on silent
mode etc.
Try to take 2 mocks tests in a week and spend
considerable amount of time on looking at analysis
and correct solutions to wrong answers.
6. Self Analysis :-
The most important thing in this complete
process of exam preparation is self analysis at
every stage,
everyday. You should be honest to yourself
regarding your weaknesses and strengths. The
blunder of postponing
the challenging topics
to some other day will
definitely lead to lack
of confidence.
7. Practice! Practice! Practice!
The more you will practice, the less you
will fear the exam. With right resources
at hand and right approach any exam
can be cleared.
We hope that this would help you in
your journey of your exam preparation.
We wish you good luck and hope you
come out with flying colors.
