Welcome to back to Term 3 for 2019. We are half way through the year and students are
continuing to work hard. This term we have Nada, our pre-service teacher present for 8 weeks
as she completes her placement. Students had the oppouritnity to meet Nada last term during
some lead in visits. I have planned some exciting new topics across the Australian Curriculum
learning areas for this term. Our bucket filling philosophy is very much embedded within the
classroom as we continue to practice kindness.
You may already be aware that I have chosen to use the Class Dojo app as a basis for
communication. I have already made some posts about our work this term. If you would like any
further support setting the app up, I am happy to assist. I also use Class Dojo as a behavior
management system as the students can accumulate points for displaying school values. If you

Term 3 Curriculum
The Australian Curriculum is used throughout the process of planning, learning, monitoring,
assessing and reporting.
Reading
Continuation of ‘café’ reading strategies—comprehension, accuracy, fluency and
vocabulary.
Guided reading (Literacy Block) with other homestead teachers. Explicit teaching of how
to decode and comprehend texts.
Activities include a focus on the big six– oral language, phonological awareness, phonics,
vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
Daily 5 program practiced daily – read to self, work on writing, read to someone, word work
and listen to reading.
Class Novel – Charlottes Web
Reader Boxes – Reading Comprehension
Strong focus on building vocabulary
Oral presentations of writing work
Writing
Writing Workshops – modeled writing with focus on elements of vocabulary whilst
consolidating skills for planning, editing and publishing work.
Develop skills in writing text types such as recount, fables, book reviews and persuasive
(advertisements)
Handwriting– weekly lesson on letter formation using South Australian modern cursive.

HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) History and Geography topics include:
Who makes rules, why rules are important and the consequences of rules not being
followed
The differences between ‘rules’ and ‘laws’, why laws are important and how they
affect the lives of people, including experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander Peoples
Science
Focus on earth’s rotation on its axis causes regular changes, including night and day and
how surfaces changes over time as a result of natural processes and human activity.
Experiments and hands on activities – STEM integration units.
