REQUIRED TOOLS:
 Service PC with USB port
 USB flash drive with at least 10 MB free disk space.
Recommendation: As the Digitizer is not able to read all kinds of USB flash
drives, use the USB flash drive delivered with the Digitizer.
The USB flash drive including software can also be ordered via order number*:
CM+604518 4
* The last digit in the spare part number indicates the spare part revision at release of this
document. When ordering, the actual revision of the spare part is delivered.
REQUIRED TIME:
Approximately 15 minutes for the installation via USB flash drive
NOTE:
Register a software upgrade in the local service management system as modification,
e.g. in SMS as “MOD”.

2.1 Checking current software version
(1) Open the browser on the NX workstation.

(2) Enter the IP address of the Digitizer in the address window.
NOTE:
If the Digitizer IP address is not known, look it up in the NX configuration tool:
 Double-click the icon <Start NX Configurator> on the desktop.
 Select: Load active configuration
 Go to: Devices > Digitizer Configuration
This page shows the Digitizer IP address.
 Quit the NX Configurator: Close without saving any changes.
(3) Enter username and password.

(4) Check the displayed software
version.

2.2 Uninstalling the Error Viewer
(1) At the NX workstation log-off

the current user.
(2) Log-in as service user (e.g.
crservice).
(3) Right-click on the Error
Viewer icon in the task bar.
(4) Exit the Error Viewer.

(5) Select: Start > Control

Panel > Programs and
Features
(6) Click Error Viewer and
confirm message to uninstall
the Error Viewer.
(7) Wait approx. 15 seconds until
the Error Viewer
uninstallation is finished.
(8) Close the Programs and
Features window.

2.3 Taking out the Digitizer USB flash drive
(1) Press both buttons at the feed A

table (A).
(2) Pull out the cassette unit (B).

CAUTION:
Parts underneath the top cover can be damaged.
Carefully remove the top cover. Follow the instructions as shown in next step.
(3) Remove two screws (A).

(4) Take off the top cover (B, C).

2.4 Preparing the USB flash drive
NOTE:
For software which is delivered on a USB flash drive together with a spare part this
step has already been done in production.
(1) Extract the downloaded software zip file into a folder on the Service PC.
Contents of the ZIP file:
 Software package CIRM2002.zip*
 This document
 Depending on the software version a readme.txt
(2) Extract all files from CIRM2002.zip*.

Folder CIRM2002* is created automatically.

(3) Copy the folder “CIRM2002“*

and its contents to the root
directory of the USB flash
drive.

(4) Go to folder “CIRM2002”* on the USB flash drive.

(5) Double click on: <Prepare_Installation.cmd>

 A DOS Box opens for a short time.
 The file startup.com is written to the root of the USB flash drive
(6) Release the USB flash drive from the Service PC.

2.5 Performing the software installation
IMPORTANT:
Do not switch off the Digitizer during software installation as the Handling Control
Board is re-programmed during the software installation procedure.
(1) Pull out the Cassette Unit.

(2) Plug the USB flash drive into
the USB slot of the Digitizer.
See Figure 10.
(3) Close the Cassette Unit.
(4) Switch on the Digitizer. The
Digitizer boots from USB flash
drive.
(5) Wait until the Digitizer LED is
red flashing or green. This
takes approximately 2 5175_c35_094a.cdr
minutes. See also NOTE

below.
NOTE:
The Digitizer status LED activity sequence during software installation is as follows:
 Slow red blinking: Approx. 0,5 minutes
 Off: Approx. 0,5 minutes
 Slow red blinking: Approx. 1 minute
 Fast red blinking or constant green*: After approx. 2 minutes
If the status LED does not get off for approx. 0,5 minutes during software upgrade,
this is already an indication, that the software upgrade failed. See also section 2.10,
Verifying the software upgrade.
* Digitizer LED only turns constant green if the right Error Viewer is installed. If the Digitizer software does
not detect the Error Viewer or detects a version that does not fit, the LED is fast red blinking.

2.6 Installing the Error Viewer
(1) In the Digitizer Service Menu select

service menu: Error Viewer
Installation
(2) Click:
ErrorViewerInstaller.msi
(3) Click: run
(4) Keeping the default settings, follow
the further instructions of the wizard. Figure 11
See also NOTE below.
NOTE:
 By keeping the default settings of the Error Viewer installation wizard it is
guaranteed, that the Error Viewer access rights for the different Windows users
(administrators / users) are set properly. See Figure 12 and Figure 13.
 Between 1 to 15 seconds after installation of the Error Viewer the Digitizer status
LED turns green.

2.7 Performing a Stall Calibration for Drawer Motor M4
NOTE:
This step is required only if the previous software was version CIRM1102 or
CIRM1201.
The movement of the drawer has been improved in software CIRM1304 in order to limit
possible retry cycles. This advanced motion sequence requires a new Stall Calibration
for the Drawer Motor M4 after software update.
(1) Select the service menu: CR 30-X Service

<Stall Calibration>

(3) Wait approx. 1 minute until Cassette Fixing Motor (M1)
the Stall Calibration is Cassette Locker Motor (M17)

2.8 Creating a Backup
(1) In service menu <Backup>

select <Complete backup>
and <SAVE TO USB>.
(2) Unplug the USB flash drive
when the message is
displayed: Remove USB
flash drive.

2.9 Putting back the USB flash drive
(1) Put the USB flash drive back in its cover and mount the screw.
(2) Mount the Top Cover.
(3) Close the Cassette Unit.
2.10 Verifying the software upgrade
Part 1: Checking the software version in the service user interface:

(1) In the Digitizer service user interface go to menu: <Device Info>
(2) Check, that the installed software version is displayed.
If the software version of the new software is not displayed, this may have
following reasons:
 The USB flash drive is too slow: In this case perform the software update
via browser. See section 3.1.
 The directory structure on the USB flash drive is not as expected.
See section 2.4.
 The file “startup.com” has not been created in the root of the USB flash
drive via <Prepare_Installation.cmd>. See section 2.3.
Note, that the file “startup.com” is erased on the USB flash drive during
software upgrade.
(3) Select menu <Logout> and confirm the service intervention.
(4) Close the browser.
Part 2: Functional check:

(1) Perform a CR workflow with an unexposed cassette.
(2) Confirm that the image arrives at the NX workstation.
(3) Reject the image.
Result: The Digitizer software is updated.

Software Releases, Patches, of the Digitizer service manual.

This section provides following instructions:

3.1 Software Upgrade via Browser
NOTE:
Software upgrade via browser can be performed from any PC in the network.
It is tested with Firefox and Internet Explorer.
(1) Uninstall the Error Viewer. See section 2.2.

(3) Copy the software ZIP file CIRM2002.zip* from the Service PC to the PC
in the network.
(4) Open the browser.
(5) Enter the IP address of the Digitizer in the address window.

NOTE:
If the Digitizer IP address is not known, look it up in the NX Configuration Tool:
 Double-click the icon <Start NX Configurator> on the desktop.
 Select: Load active configuration
 Go to: Devices > Digitizer Configuration
This page shows the Digitizer IP address.

(12) Take out the Digitizer USB flash drive from its cover. See section 2.3.
(13) Install the Error Viewer. See section 2.6.
(14) If the previous software was version CIRM1102 or CIRM1201: Perform a Stall
Calibration. See section 2.7.
(15) Create a Backup. See section 2.8.
(16) Put back the USB flash drive. See section 2.9.
(17) Verify the software upgrade. See section 2.10.
3.2 Software Installation on a new CF Card
(1) Uninstall the Error Viewer. See section 2.2.

(2) Take out the Digitizer USB flash drive. See section 2.3.

(12) If the previous software was version CIRM1102 or CIRM1201: Perform a Stall
Calibration. See section 2.7.
(13) Create a Backup. See section 2.8.
(14) Put back the USB flash drive. See section 2.9.
(15) Verify the software installation. See section 2.10.
IMPORTANT:
(A) Proceeding if a Backup file is not available:
The Backup is a file with following syntax:
BAC_CR30-5179_<DigitizerSN>_<DDMMMYYYY>_<HH-MM-SS>.zip.
If the Backup is not available, following data are lost:
o Digitizer configuration, except Digitizer network settings. The network settings
are stored in an EPROM on the CPMI board.
o Logfiles
o Infocounter
In this case it is required to perform the Digitizer configuration. For details refer to
chapter 1, Controls, Connections and Set-up Procedure, of the Digitizer service
manual.
(B) Proceeding if the Digitizer service menu cannot be accessed:
The service menu cannot be accessed anymore, if the Digitizer network settings
are lost. This may happen, if CF card and CPMI board are replaced at the same
time. A restore is not possible in this case, as the browser connection is not
available anymore. Solving this issue has to be made in following steps:
 Reset the Digitizer network settings by double-clicking file
RestoreDefaultAddress.cmd in directory CIRM2002* on the USB flash
drive and booting with the USB flash drive (for details see chapter 3.3,
Troubleshooting, of the Digitizer Service Manual).
 Set the network IP4 address of the service PC to 192.192.192.193 with
subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
 Connect the Service PC directly to the Digitizer and start the browser.
 Enter IP address 192.192.192.192.
 In the service menu select <Restore> and restore the latest Backup
from USB flash drive.
 Reconnect the Digitizer to the NX workstation
 Switch off/on the Digitizer.
