Final Reflection Paper

This semester we needed to find a site to do an internship at. At first it took me a while to

figure out what I wanted to do. I had talked with a few people in the health field about doing an

internship with them and it seemed that everything that I was finding didn’t fit what I wanted to

do, or it wouldn’t work with my schedule. I began talking at work about needing to find an

internship and my coworker told me about a place called Stanton Healthcare, after learning more

about what this clinic offers I knew I wanted to do my internship there.

Stanton Healthcare’s mission is “to offer life-affirming solutions and resources to abortion

vulnerable women; provide hope to those struggling from the pain of a past abortion; and share

the message of sexual integrity - in a confidential and professional environment that promotes

physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.” I chose this site because I wanted to be able to help

women who may be put in a tough decision in their life with learning that they are with child. I

want women and men to know that there are more resources out there and there are people that

truly want to help when facing what may be a hard time in life. I also am very passionate when it

comes to saving a life and feel that this would give me a good opportunity to better understand

what people are going through and why they are making the choices they are.

I feel that the internship went very well. There were times where it was very slow, and I felt

that I wasn’t learning much, but at other times there was a lot of work to do and so much to
learn. I learned about the many different obstacle’s women are facing when they are with child,

some may be struggling financially, or their significant other doesn’t support them, they might

not feel ready to be a parent, and so much more. It helped me to realize how much I have and

how fortunate I am to not be facing those things in my life. I feel that I was able to relate to

women coming in, in the fact that I am pregnant, and there is a lot to think about with that, but I

don’t have nearly as many of the stressors that these women have.

I would have to say that this internship most definitely had an impact on my future career

choice. It helped me to realize that I would like to continue to work with these people and maybe

eventually open up a clinic like it wherever I may end up living. I was very happy that I was able

to do an internship because it also confirmed to me that I was studying the right thing for me.

Sometimes it is hard to decide about what you want to do with the rest of your life, so I am very

grateful for the opportunity I had to intern at Stanton Healthcare. I will continue to volunteer

there and learn more about that field of work and hope to work there later on or work in a clinic

similar to it.

Overall, I felt that I benefited from this internship and I have been able to learn a lot in a

short amount of time. I have grown to love this field of study and hope to continue to learn more

about Health and how I can have an impact on the community that I live in.
