(Direct Instruction)
• In the days leading up to the lesson, students will take
Cornell notes as I give a lecture on the major cities,
regions, and geographical features in Spanish-speaking
countries and the reasons they are significant to each
specific culture.

(Independent Practice)
• Before the assignment, students will have completed
map activities and worksheets using the notes from

• Students will have had opportunity to study the material
to be prepared for the lesson for review before the
exam.

We Do:

• I will introduce the lesson using the Smart Exchange
activity.
• The class will then be split into groups for the

collaborative learning portion of the activity.

You Do Together:
(Collaborative Learning)
• ¿Dónde se habla español? – Smart Exchange Activity on
the Smart Board
• Students will work in their groups and send a designated
representative from the group to drag the country/city
to the correct location on the map one at a time for
each geographic region: Centroamérica, Sudamérica, y
España.
• If any group notices that a map is labeled incorrectly,
they must send a representative to correct the map
before moving onto the next one.
• Once each map is completed and everyone is in
agreement, a student will click on the next page of the
activity to check their answers with the answer key.
• Then, each group will be assigned a capital and they
must draw a line from the city to the respective country
it belongs to.
• Finally, once everyone is in agreement with the answers,
a student will switch to the answer key to confirm their
matches.

Summary:
• The Smart Exchange activity will reinforce the prior
lessons on the standard SI.8 by working in a
collaborative environment for this lesson.
