The system in which a classroom runs is vastly important for the contribution of

education. A classroom emphasizes the need for a safe and stable environment that

will help students focus and learn more in their day to day lives. With the right

conditions associated in classroom traits such as respect, and responsibility, a personal

development aspect will arise giving students a great head start in learning good social

responsibilities. For a teacher, the remote for classroom management is glued to the

hand, and they must learn to effectively handle the many characteristics and aspects

that fit a role in the classroom.

Time management is the structural essence of classroom management. As time

is of the essence, teachers must strategically punctuate their lesson plans and work to

fit content. Four important things to remember to maximize the quality of learning time

are. Allocating a specific amount of time designed for a specific area of content.

Instructional time is the teaching time that remains after administrative / routine

management tasks are checked off. Engagement time, the amount of time students

actively involve themselves in the learning experience. Lastly, academic learning time

is for the time students spend successfully engaged with learning content.

One of the most important people in shaping modern education in the United

States is Jacob Kaunin, an educational theorist who came up with his famous Theories

of Classroom Management. One important theory is his idea of the Ripple Effect. This

suggests that good behavior that is rewarded and praised is naturally communicated as

a good example to other students. A lot of Kaunin’s ideas of classroom management tie

into the idea of teachers being very spacious and mentally aware of what is happening

in their classroom. Kaunin calls this “withitness” but also presents ideas of overlapping,

as well as proximity that all tie into the idea of classroom awareness and discipline.

Another very big aspect in classroom management comes from how the students

perceive their teacher. The first thing that should be communicated to students is their

role as students in the class, and that the subsequent role of you, the teacher is to

educate and improve the quality of their lives under you, as pupils. The implications of

this student and teacher relationship comes with a dose of quarrel, which can be easily

subdued by the simple act of communicating respect and care to ones students. This

can be achieved by simple acts of memorizing names, making eye contact and smiling,

using inclusive pronouns, (we / our not you / your), and of course holding students to

high standards.

To conclude this chapter, there are many different guidelines that can be used to

effectively run a classroom. And what makes these management strategies very useful

is their broadness. Most if not all of the rules that we went over this chapter are

applicable to the highly broad range of students that go through the K - 12 classrooms.
