Dunietz, Jesse. “The Subtle Genius of the 404 Error.” Popular Mechanics, Popular
Mechanics, 28 Oct. 2019,
www.popularmechanics.com/technology/a24091/404-error-world-wide-
web/?utm_source=pocket.
In the nonfiction news article, I learned about a setback on the advance of the
web that would eventually lead to social media platforms. The problem in the
article is where faulty links would lead for a person, which could threaten to
break the world wide web. To solve it, the creator Sir Tim Berners-Lee, made
the 404 error simply telling the user that it’s a faulty link.
“Gore Was a Key Figure in Early Use of the Internet.” Translated by Jacalyn
Levine, Google News Archive Search, Gainesville Sun, 2 Nov. 2000,
news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1320&dat=20001102&id=Ub0zAAAAIB
AJ&sjid=IuwDAAAAIBAJ&pg=4839%2C216648.
This antiquated newspaper article told me about the timeline of events during
the “boom” of the internet. As well, it informed me on an advocate for the
internet named Gore, a senator.
High, Peter. “The Father Of The Internet, Vint Cerf, Continues To Influence Its
Growth.” Forbes, Forbes Magazine, 26 Mar. 2018,
www.forbes.com/sites/peterhigh/2018/03/26/the-father-of-the-internet-vint-
cerf-continues-to-influence-its-growth/#5f069cb449e5.
Vint Cerf, one of the people who worked on the world wide web, talks about
the point of commercialization, global impact, and effects on everyday people
as well as the team of researchers who began, at least partially, the
revolutionary invention of the internet in a document recording an interview
in paper. He also talks about details on how information was transmitted from
computer to computer, such as packet switching, the basic for human-
electronic communication.
Similarly to a past source, I used this dictionary to find what believe to be the basic
concept of the internet. This way, I know how to get people to understand
harder concepts.
Li, Steven. “How Does The Internet Work?” Medium, Medium, 7 Mar. 2018,
medium.com/@User3141592/how-does-the-internet-work-edc2e22e7eb8.
The internet is made up of packet switching (messages fragmented) with routers
(places where packet go to in the interval between devices) and internet
protocols, or rules and restrictions, to this website. This helped me develop
the part of my website that speaks about how the internet works in further
detail.
This video interview told me about Robert Khan’s (one of the creators of the
internet) progression through the internet. Within it, Robert E. Khan talks
about DARPA, a defense and research agency, and what was expected for the
early internet, such as corporate use. Besides this, he speaks about the people
and things that led to the commercialization of the internet that would soon
allow quick communication and comments on exactly how far the internet
went. He also speaks about the technicalities of the internet and how
important communication is to the internet’s success.
“Sir Tim Berners Lee | How The World Wide Web Just Happened.” Youtube, Do
Lectures, 24 June 2012, www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF5-6AcohQw.
This short inspirational speech by Sir Tim Berners-Lee speaks about how the
internet is a connected mass, and is much more intricate than people believe.
Not only that, but he speaks about how the need for the world wide web was
necessary for the average person to be able to utilize the internet through
communication.
Staughton, John, et al. “Pigeon Post - How Do Homing (Messenger) Pigeons Know
Where To Go?” Science ABC, 19 Oct. 2019,
www.scienceabc.com/eyeopeners/how-did-the-pigeon-post-work.html.
Here, I learned about homing pigeons, or winged avians, delivering mail
using magnetic fields. These were one of the first ways to deliver mail safely
and securely without prying eyes.
This is the video I put onto my website to explain what the internet is simply in a
fun interactive way with a few foolish questions. As well, it helped me with
the tech specifics in another page by showing me how the internet is
interconnected like a web.
Whitten, Sarah. “'Sonic the Hedgehog' Director Promises Sonic Redesign after Fan
Backlash, but Changes Could Be Costly for Paramount.” CNBC, CNBC, 3 May
2019, www.cnbc.com/2019/05/03/sonic-the-hedgehog-director-promises-
sonic-redesign-after-fan-backlash.html.
It helped me see exactly how much the internet has affected the modern day.
The audience of “Sonic the Hedgehog” critiqued and commented on the
film online, getting the attention of “Paramount,” and they changed the
model of their main protagonist.
