CAREER ACTION WORKSHEET

5-5 Create Your Draft Master Resume

It is time to create your draft Master Resume! Copy your completed Career Action
Worksheet 4-2, Resume Outline into a new file for this activity. Make sure you have
updated each section with the drafts you created.
 CAREER ACTION WORKSHEET 5-1: Write a Stronger Professional Profile
 CAREER ACTION WORKSHEET 5-2: Revise Your Qualifications List
 CAREER ACTION WORKSHEET 5-3: Strengthen Your Work Experiences
 CAREER ACTION WORKSHEET 5-4: Resume Action Verbs and Keywords
When you’ve updated each section, use the checklist below to edit this file—your draft
Master Resume!
 Ensure you have included and properly formatted all sections, including
Education, Related Experiences, Awards and Honors, and any Optional sections.
 For the Education section, have you emphasized courses, internships, degrees,
certificates, etc. that best support your objective? If your GPA is impressive, have
you included it (overall or major/minor related to your job objective)?
 Is the length of the resume appropriate for your level of experience?
 Is the resume free of all grammatical errors, including incorrect use of
homophones, tense, capitalization, contractions, and other common errors?
 Do you use sentence fragments and omit the articles the, a, and an and the words
I, me, and my?
 Is the overall design visually appealing and easy to read?
 Have you used appropriate fonts; white space; and acceptable enhancements
such as bold, bullets, and tabs for indenting? Have you used italics sparingly?
Now give your resume the 30-second skim test. Do you get a feel for who you are as an
applicant? Does your eye flow easily toward keywords and strengths? Does your resume
tell the story you want it to tell?
