Moving from a domestic boutique consulting firm to the world's largest was an exciting transition in
many ways.
Broadening of perspectives was the theme at Accenture; Be it my understanding of supply chain, its
challenges pertaining to different geographies or all the more diverse sectors and people. I also
broadened my people development perspective by following a structured mentorship approach at
Accenture.
Real action and Repercussions of people's action becomes clearer only once you get into sales.
Selling a consulting assignment is like learning customer's perspective from a different vantage
point.
Jointly introspecting about customer issues, developing his vision from scratch, influencing him and
creating a unique solution was how I spent a significant amount of my time in this role.
Creating marketing collateral, selling assignments and handling teams was the flavour of the role.
Be it improving supply chain for a leading FMCG player, reducing cost for an auto major,
implementing TPM practices at a power plant or improving business process at a chemical
manufacturer, the focus was always on improvement.
Experience acted as teacher; Understanding the business, diagnosing the issues and implementing
the change gave me first hand experience of structural and psychological implications of Change.
My journey literally spanned across 8 states of the country where I interacted with people from
diverse backgrounds and cultures. This helped me shape my own personality and prepare for bigger
challenges lying ahead.
This phase of my career saw quiet a few changes including getting myself aligned to retail
and CPG vertical and donning leadership role.
Domain focus opened up portals of new knowledge for me. It helped me grow professionally
and psychologically into an entirely different orbit.
Leading an offshore team from offshore turned out to be a very different experience than
leading the same team from distance. This experience thought me initial lessons in
leadership; setting the tone for work, creating an atmosphere of trust and most importantly
setting an example for others.
My onsite exposure, leadership role and focus on domain set the tone for next steps in my
career. I wanted to be closer to business and drive business by taking informed decisions.
The time was ripe for an MBA degree.
I took on this opportunity post my mechanical engineering degree. This leap of faith turned out to
be a goldmine of experience. Opportunities came bundled with one of the fastest growing
companies in country's sunrise sector.
Post 3 month of rigorous training, I became part of WENA (West of North America) division. I got the
opportunity to travel onsite to Los Angeles, USA Where 24 hours of the day got finely divided under
close customer interaction, preparing requirements, review of offshore team's work, communicating
them the daily feedback and doing production support.
Studying at ISB was the most distinct education experience for me. It was refreshing in more than
one way.Being used to traditional ways of education, I was pleasantly surprised by the unique
teaching experience offered at ISB.
As goes the popular saying, best learning may not necessarily be discovering a new concept but
discovering a new aspect of an existing concept. Looking at business from an altogether different
vantage point was a unique aspect of ISB experience.
When you find yourself sipping mid-night coffee while finishing an assignment, when solving
complex business cases becomes part of your DNA, when partying throughout the night is as much
of an importance as studies; you know you are are deep into ISB culture.
The stretch was not only physical but also psychological. I would rate ISB experience as the most
fruitful learning experience I have ever had.
Being part of a prestigious engineering college like DCE was a dream come true for an engineering
hopeful like me.
Right from day one, I was a hosteler. This opened up new vistas of social interactions for me.
Whether it was preparing for the exams, working on the nitty-gritty of engiFest (DCE annual festival)
or participating in other DU colleges' festivals, it was all an enriching experience for me.
