SILLITIN Z 89 / SILLITIN Z 89 puriss

TECHNICAL DATA – Field of application: PAINT & VARNISH

1. Description 2. Applications 3. Benefits
SILLITIN Z 89 and SILLITIN Z 89 In paint and varnish applications • high filling ratio
puriss is a natural combination of SILLITIN Z 89 and SILLITIN Z 89
corpuscular silica and lamellar puriss can be used as functional • outstanding dispersion behavior
kaolinite. These two elements fillers either on their own or • good pigment dispersion
together form a loose structure combined with extenders or flatting (spacer effect)
which offers particular advantages agents.
in terms of application possibilities • low abrasiveness
Fields of application:
when used as a functional filler. • very low tendency to settle
• emulsion and silicate paints
Characteristics: (exterior and interior emulsion • soft sediment
Appearance: free-flowing powder paints)
Brightness Y DIN 53 163: 86 • good wet edge strength
Brightness Z DIN 53 163: 86 • industrial paints
• quick drying
Residue > 40 µm: 20 mg/kg • wood and foil coatings
Residue > 200 µm: 3 mg/kg • anti-corrosion coatings • weathering resistance
Volatile matter • primers and fillers also for the • breathability
at 105 °C: 0.5 % automobile industry
Electrical • scratch resistance
• sealing and embedding
conductivity: 80 µS/cm compounds • high abrasion resistance
Density: 2.6 g/cm³
Particle size distribution • electrophoretic paints • very good transparency
D50 : 1.9 µm It stands out for its excellent • slight flatting effect
D97 : 9.0 µm dispersion properties, moderate
Surface area BET: 10 m²/g yield point and pseudoplasticity with • complies with the standards on
Oil absorption: 55 g/100 g a high solids content and high basic foodstuffs of the BfR and
Refractive index n: 1.55 abrasion resistance. In unpigmented FDA
coatings it achieves good Puriss also provides the following
Puriss grade:
transparency with a minimal yellow benefits compared with the base
As a result of a sophisticated
tinge. SILLITIN Z 89:
manufacturing process the very low
sieving residue is reduced even SILLITIN Z 89 puriss also has • extremely low sieving residues
further from the values given above advantages in the following • excellent dispersion behavior
to the following: instances:
> 40 µm: 8 mg/kg • extremely high requirements on Properties:
> 200 µm: 1 mg/kg dispersion behavior (paint
In addition the very good dispersion production without grinding)

4. Particle size distribution

The measurement method for these particle size distributions is based on the Fraunhofer diffraction
spectrum. The analyses were carried out with Mastersizer 3000, a laser apparatus of Malvern.

Important: The data on particle size distribution is highly dependent upon the method used, test
preparations and the measuring device itself. As a result the values given may not be
directly comparable with those provided by another manufacturer.
