Industries with higher education and training requirements tend to pay workers with higher

wages. The knowledge and skills of workers available in the labor supply is a key

determinant for both business and economic growth. An economy’s productivity rises as

the number of educated workers increases since skilled workers can perform tasks more

efficiently.

 Attitude Toward Product Quality and Customer Service

The product being free of any defects and working exactly as expected and claimed to

do is ensuring the product quality. A business should only allow a good quality product to

go to the market. Meanwhile, it is very welcoming for a customer who is being treated with

dignity and utmost respect by a friendly and attentive customer representative. Customer

service provides consumer satisfaction by giving them assurance that the product or service

rendered has met or exceeded the customer’s satisfaction. Providing the highest level of

talent are vital to ensuring economic growth and wealth creation for residents and

businesses throughout the world. By recognizing the importance of technology and

 Spending on Research and Development

Research is the conception phase while product development is the entire process of

designing, creating, and marketing new products or existing products with new features.

The goal of research and development is to be able to introduce new products or services

to the market and for the improvement and development of the business itself. It plays a

very important role in the success of a business for it contributes in the sustainability and

helps the business in having a competitive edge over its competitors.

Economic Factor

 Level of consumer’s disposable income

Disposable income is defined as the total amount of household income that is available

for spending and saving after paying income taxes. If the level of consumer’s disposable

income decreases, they will also have less money for spending and saving which will then

result in consumers to consume less. Costumers that are frugal will affect the business for
5

they will be careful in spending money and only buy things or avail services that they

usually need.

 Price Fluctuations

Pricing could be tricky. A business could be tempted in underpricing a product when

the owner is anxious to compete. Low priced products could increase sales quantity;

however, cheap goods are perceived by customers to be cheap and might choose to buy

from the more expensive competition for they believe it to be of better quality. On the other

hand, overpricing could result in the product to sit on the shelf if the competitor sells

cheaper. A business should be able t006F identify the appropriate pricing that equates to

the quality of the product or the service.

Environmental Factor

 Laws regulating environment pollution

Every business in this country is affected by environmental laws. On a daily basis, most

businesses deal with one or more environmental laws. For instance, employees must be

informed and educated about the hazardous materials in the workplace and they must

inform their communities about such materials on their premises. Businesses must apply

for and adhere to permits from a certain law for their air emissions and discharges in

waterways. It is helpful to be familiar with the problems addressed by the environmental

laws, the provisions of those laws, and the kinds of mechanisms and administrative

agencies through which those environmental laws are enforced.

6

 Attitudes toward “green” or ecological products

It is important for a business to be environmentally friendly. A business could

contribute help to the environment by reducing impact on it and by preserving natural

resources. It is important for the ecological factor to influence the business for the actions

and processes of the corporation would also be about protecting natural environment and

at the same time, maintaining or increasing the efficiency of the business.

Political Factor

 Government stability and likely changes

Government stability is important for business environments as it affects investor and

consumer confidence, thus having a wider impact on the economy. A rise in government

instability will undermine business environments. Therefore, changes in government

stability have implications for investment, consumption, and economic growth.

 Tax policy

Taxes are an unavoidable part of being in business. Fully understanding on how to

manage and minimize tax burden can maximize the profits of the business over time. How

tax policies and business structures affect the business and how practical tax planning can

help the business stay organized and financially healthy is a must for a business owner to

be aware of.
7

Legal Factor

 Antitrust law

Antitrust law is about market power that regulates the conduct and organization of

business corporations that is to generally promote competition for the benefit of consumers.

A conviction for violating antitrust laws can have disastrous and even fatal consequences

for a business. The law has a positive effect for it allows the businesses in improving and

developing in order to remain a strong competitor in the field.

 Copyright, patents/intellectual property rights

Intellectual property right is one of the most important business assets that a business

should take care of. It refers to a legal term covering various forms of valuable business

assets. Patents, copyright, and trademarks enables people to earn recognition or financial

benefit from what they originally invented or created.

Ethical Factor

 Ethical advertising and sales practices

A business meeting and its ethical selling obligations is necessary. Consumers place a

high value on a business with an honest advertising. It helps the business in earning the

trust and loyalty of the consumers which will then help in strengthening its reputation.
8

 Attitude toward counterfeiting and breaking patents

Businesses have become vulnerable and could easily be imitated or pirated because

everything is just one click away and readily available online. Good ideas and new products

that people want to buy are all too often knocked-off by counterfeiters. Acquiring necessary

business permits and registrations is one way in avoiding such circumstances to happen.

Demographic Factor

 Social classes

Social class refers to the grouping of individuals in a stratified hierarchy based on

wealth, income, education, social network and occupation. A person’s social class has far-

reaching consequences. If a business with high priced products is in a low social class

environment, it would be inappropriate for their primary target market. The product or

service of a business should be apposite with regards to the social class of target market.

 Minorities

Minorities include people in any category other than non-Hispanic white. There are

several factors that contributes to the increase in minority entrepreneurship including

minorities buying businesses from baby boomers seeking to retire as the economy

improves. Entrepreneurship is a tried and tested method to exploit opportunities that

mostly use gadgets. They are more inclined in experiencing innovative products which

could be used with the enterprise’s product. The secondary target market is composed of

FAITH Colleges’ staff such as guards and teachers, because they could use the product on

Inventory Policy

Triple JRN Enterprise decided to use the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) process in

selling and handling out of the product to prevent the decreasing of the product durability.

This anticipate that the first produced product will also be the first one to be sold. The FIFO

process would be really helpful for the proponents of this enterprise to accomplish their

different goals by satisfying the needs and the expectations of the target consumers.

Quality Control Requirements

The most important advantage of quality control requirement is introducing quality

control that develops and encourages quality consciousness and meet the satisfaction of a

procedures or set of procedures are performed to ensure that the product adheres to a

defined set of quality criteria or that it would meet the requirements of a customer.

Checking the product’s content is one of the checklists in ensuring the quality of the

product. Next is the packaging for it may contain some defects that could affect the product
29

inside. Appearance is also one of the factors, it could be ensuring the color of the product

itself which adds up to the appearance of the product. Another one is the function of the

product itself as to why the costumer bought the product in the first place.
30

Do’s and Don’ts

1. Do have noble intentions. Every business has an intention and that intention should

be a noble one. An intention should help the consumers and the entrepreneurs at

the same time.

2. Do be persistent. Problems in a business is inevitable. Entrepreneurs should be

determined when it comes in finding a solution to this problem. When one solution

didn’t work, the entrepreneurs should rethink the strategy and have another go.

3. Do something every day. The work on the business should be broken down into

manageable pieces. Time management is essential for the entrepreneurs to be

organized and aware of what task is scheduled for that certain day.

4. Do take risks. Success is not easily gained and the time will come that the enterprise

should choose if they will play safe or take risk in the business industry. With

consideration to that, courage is a characteristic that the entrepreneurs should

portray.

5. Do offer amazing service. Given that the customer is the lifeblood of a business, it

is the duty of the entrepreneurs to value and give amazing service to them. It is also

necessary for it makes the business stand out and it is the way to gain the customer’s

loyalty.

6. Don’t take anything personally. There will always be criticisms or people that will

choose not to buy the product of the enterprise. When that time comes, the

entrepreneurs should know that the criticisms could also be taken as an advantage

and learn from it.

31

7. Don’t expect instant success. Most of the business start from the bottom and earn

their way up to success. Building a business takes time but after the success, it’s a

great feeling of accomplishment for all the efforts and hard works are worth-it.

8. Don’t think too highly of yourself. Showing off and thinking highly of the business

doesn’t make it more successful. Even if the business itself is successful enough, it

won’t hurt if the entrepreneurs will still be humble.

9. Don’t forget about your team. The business itself wouldn’t be complete with just

the manager itself. Valuing the team is a must for they have a huge role in the

success of the business itself.

10. Don’t waste people’s time. Time is one of the essential factors in a business whether

it comes to customers, manufacturers, and even the entrepreneurs itself. Valuing

the time of these people is another factor in making the business successful.

that the business runs well. The term “general manager” is used throughout the business

for they specialize in administrative tasks. Apart from being assigned to do administrative

tasks, discipline and coaching is also a part of the general manager’s duty. Skills in judging

potential candidates that is to be hired should be obtained by the general manager too. Thus,

a general manager’s task is to maintain the efficiency, implementation of proper procedure

and policies, and guidance of the employee morale.

Product Manager

A product manager is a product expert who can grasp and demonstrate why the product

matters to customers, how it was manufactured, how it’s sold and how competitors are

producing and marketing it. It is the job of a product manager to monitor the product of the

enterprise full-time. This position is necessary for they are experts on products which is

the core of any business and its reason for being.

Accountant

The key aspect of an accountant is managing the cash of the enterprise. This position

is necessary for the income has a major help in the improvement of a business. It is the

goal of the accountant to maintain a consistent rise in a business’ overall earnings.

Marketing Generalist

A market generalist is an expert in targeting customers and telling them why the

product matters to them. An enterprise needs someone who could put the business’ vision

into words, images, and messages. This individual is necessary for they also help in earning

and maintaining the loyalty of the customers.

Foreperson

The foreperson is the second-in-command when the general manager is not available.

This individual doesn’t just work when the general manager can’t. He is also responsible

in assisting the general manager for the whole development of the business itself.
34

Legal form of Ownership

The Triple JRN Enterprise uses general partnership in which a business

arrangement by which two or more individuals agree to share in all assets, profits and

financial and legal liabilities of a jointly-owned business structure. General partnerships

offer participants the flexibility to structure their businesses however they see fit, giving

partners the ability to control operations more closely. This allows for more swift and

decisive management, compared with corporations, which often must slog through

multiple levels of bureaucracy and red tape, which complicates and slows down the

implementation of new ideas. A sole proprietorship is a firm that is owned by one person.

From a legal perspective, the firm and its owner are considered one and the same. On the

plus side, this means that all profits are the property of the owner. In a partnership, two or

more partners share ownership of a firm. A partnership is similar to a sole proprietorship

in that the partners are the only beneficiaries of the firm’s profits, but they are also

responsible for any losses and debts. Partnerships can be especially attractive if each

person’s expertise complements the others. A key difference between a corporation on the

one hand and a sole proprietorship and a partnership on the other is that corporations

involve the separation of ownership and management. Corporations sell shares of

ownership that are publicly traded in stock markets, and they are managed by professional

executives.
35

Personnel Policies

Policies governing employee conduct is the one that an enterprise should have.

These are numerous laws and regulations which regulate the nature of the relationship

between an employee and his or her organization. These policies should address issues like

confidentiality of company information, compliance with laws, fair employee and

managerial conduct and conflicts of interest. The following are the set of personnel policies

of the Triple JRN Enterprise:

 At-will employment in which the employment relationship can be terminated at any

time, by either the employee or the employer, for any reason or no reason at all.

Having a written policy that reinforces your right to discharge at-will can help your

defense in a wrongful termination case.

 A formal payroll policy is a must have for an enterprise because currently,

employee lawsuits claiming incorrect pay are on the rise.

 A proper time-off policy will cover expected work hours, attendance expectations

and paid holidays.

 Your conduct policy can set expectations on everything from dress code and

customer interaction to personal use of company equipment and social media. This

is also necessary for if a rule is broken that is not specifically listed on the policy,

it will be covered.

 This crucial policy clearly states that discrimination and harassment are unacceptable in

your workplace when it comes to all terms, may it be on gender, race, age, sexual

orientation, sexual identity or even political affiliation.

36

 Have employees sign an acknowledgment stating they received the policies, read

them and understand their content. Keep a copy of the signed acknowledgment in

the personnel file, or a date and time stamp on an electronic acknowledgment.

 There has been a growing need for companies to include policies regarding having

firearms or weapons on the premises. Depending on the nature of the business, there

may even be a need for metal detectors. State clearly what disciplinary actions will

be taken should someone be carrying a concealed weapon.

 It is unlawful to be engaged in company business while under the influence of an

illegal drug.

 Provisions for sick leave, jury duty, emergencies, military duty and other absences,

including those mandated by the Family and Medical Leave Act.

 Provisions or policies for seminars, college classes or outside courses — carpet restoration

certification, for example — is included in educational opportunities.

Chapter V

Start-up expense and capitalization

The total project cost of the Triple JRN Enterprise was assessed by calculating the

working capital which includes the purchase of direct materials, indirect materials, and the

transportation expense. Selling and administrative expenses were also considered which

consists of the salaries and wages, advertising expense, office supplies, and the rent

expense. The total was added with a 10% contingency. All this sum up to 19, 097.76 pesos

which is the total project cost of the enterprise.

Source of funding

When business owners do not have the capital to fund their endeavors, they must

seek financial assistance from external resources. The type of business you operate has an

impact on your funding options. For example, small businesses do not attract venture

capital financing the way large, high-growth organizations do, but they are ideal for angel

investors. Contributing own money to a business is the easiest way to finance it. A person

could tap into their savings, use a home-equity line of credit or sell or borrow against a

personal asset – including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or real estate. A person can

contribute money as equity or make loans to the enterprise. Banks make a lot of loans to

small businesses too. If a person has a good business plan and have personal assets that

they could offer as collateral, they may be able to qualify for a bank loan even if the

business is a start-up business. Having a credit card is having a built-in line of credit.

Although credit cards are one of the costliest ways to finance an enterprise, they are

routinely used as a source of funds for start-up businesses.

cents on the logo and 600 pesos for the advertising expense. With a total of 2747.50 pesos,

it was divide into 5 for it is the number of the members. A total of 429.40 was the equal
