Step #1: Working Together for a Common Goal

● Identify potential organizations where you could introduce and assist with a
small-scale Partnership Project.
○ The Black Community Fund
○ The Park Hill School District
○ The North Kansas City School District
○ The Liberty School District
● Begin contacting organizations. Share an overview of the course with them
and exactly what a small-scale project will entail.
○ The Black Community Fund
■ Emailed general info email
○ The Park Hill School District
■ Emailed superintendent
○ The North Kansas City School District
■ Emailed superintendent
○ The Liberty School District
■ Emailed superintendent
● Discuss t he possible areas in which they may be interested in creating a
partnership. (Example email below)

Step #2: Forming Strategic Partnerships and Common Agendas

● Common Agenda
○ The Boosted Voices Coalition is a collective impact created to empower
girls and young women of color through educational initiatives in the
Greater Kansas City area. Our Common Agenda is to change the
curriculum of K-12 schools across the city in each subject area to include
the contributions of women of color in an intentional, thoughtful manner.
● Goals
○ To create a website with lesson and unit plan ideas for inclusive teaching
ideas
○ To hold monthly, in-person volunteer meetings for educators,
administrators, parents, and stakeholders to discuss progress and ways to
improve
○ To structure Professional Development seminars in every Kansas City
metro school district with presentations on the importance of boosting the
voices of women of color in education
○ To increase the number of girls and young women of color in after-school
STEM/STEAM clubs and activities
○ To increase the number of high school seniors on career/college-ready
paths
○ To shift the perspectives of white children to understand the importance
of diversity and of WOC’s contributions to the world
○ To create legislation for tax incentives for businesses who put WOC
through teaching programs

Step #3: Management and Communication

● Management Strategy
○ The Black Community Fund will agree to a small-scale funding agreement
in order to pay for the website domain of the partnership, the food,
beverages, and materials for monthly volunteer meetings, and materials
necessary for Professional Development seminars
■ Further discussions to be had for legal writing for legislation
drafting as well as STEM/STEAM club funding
■ The Park Hill, Liberty, and North Kansas City School Districts agree
to a cooperation agreement in order to train their teachers,
counselors, and administrators to meet the related goals
● Communication Strategy
○ We will utilize Google Tools for communication purposes (Google Surveys
+ Sheets for gathering and analyzing data, Google Docs for creating
brochures, pamphlets, and other documents for meetings and for
spreading awareness of our goals, Google Hangouts for stakeholder
meetings in between volunteer meetings)
○ We will create a website to disseminate our information
○ We will have public monthly volunteer meetings
○ We will create seminars for various districts’ Professional Development
Days
○ We will have open and honest communication with all stakeholders,
partners, and the community

Step #4: Work Plans and Activities

● We will create a website with lesson and unit plan ideas for inclusive teaching
ideas
○ Website will be managed and organized by Brittany Twenter
● We will hold monthly, in-person volunteer meetings for educators, administrators,
parents, and stakeholders to discuss progress and ways to improve
○ Meetings will be planned by Brittany Twenter with lesson plans and
activities created by volunteer teachers and administrators from KC
school districts
● We will structure Professional Development seminars in every Kansas City metro
school district with presentations on the importance of boosting the voices of
women of color in education
○ These will be planned by the volunteer teachers and administrators
● Workgroups will be divided into Elementary, Middle, and High School
○ Leaders from each workgroup will gather and present information for
groups

Step #5: Partnership Evaluation and Challenges

● Common Agenda Evaluation

○ It is important not only to collect data on growth and proficiency of young
girls and women of color in schools, but also to gather information on
perceived discrimination, how ready they feel for college and career, and
what ways we can help them. We can accomplish this through a bi-annual
survey (anonymous, but data-linked in such a way that we can track
students’ responses as they move through K-12). We will also track the
wage gap and poverty level in Kansas City between demographics, as well
as college and career choices that young women of color choose after
high school.
● Future Challenges
○ It is i mperative that non-women of color do not speak for women of color.
Our biggest challenge will be educating ourselves on the ways in which to
be respectful and responsible allies and activists for this cause.
● Evaluation Plan for Outcomes of Partnership
○ We will consistently revisit and restructure our goals as necessary
● Strategy to Work Through Potential Challenges
○ Again, open and honest communication on a consistent basis!
○ If issues arise between partners, a neutral third party will sit down with all
partners to discuss moving forward

Step #6: Equity and Inclusion and Final Projects

● This entire partnership is based on the need for equity and inclusion.
Although all volunteers are welcome, this means that t he ideas of women of
color are not to be spoken over or overlooked in these meetings, as their
views are individually and holistically important for what we are trying to
accomplish.
● Workgroups will be structured with leadership positions for women of color
first and foremost, if volunteers are willing and able to take on these roles.

Step #7: Partnership Transitions and Endings

● When our partnership sees promising progress, we can transition to bring in
more school districts in the Kansas City metro area, as well as more partners
for funding purposes
● We can continue on to add more focus to other ways in which we can help
women of color succeed in Kansas City
○ Plans may eventually expand to include other demographics who are
underserved and in need of a boost in education, such as men of color,
people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ groups, etcetera
