PROJECT PLAN

INQUIRY MODULE
ASIANNA KHAMNEUNGTHAI [9/24/19]

My subject area of interest lies in the technologies that the ignited

lab offers to expand my professional skills and advance my abilities
to incorporate technology within my career field, such as educational
teaching, but I choose psychology. Therefore, I’ll be able to be
proficient in using virtual reality, robotics, coding, 3-D printing, as
well as artificial intelligence.

SUBJECT AREA OF INTEREST

One subject I am interested in is Virtual reality. I chose virtual reality

because its an 4D reality that can push beyond the scope of what
students be able to experience without being able to leave the
classroom.

IGNITED LABS TECHNOLOGY AREA (AI)

I plan to explore the augmented reality technologies as well as the
3D printers. I chose this technology because as mentioned before, I
feel that using augmented reality we can add visual and enhanced
hands-on experience for students.

For each prompt – provide 1 – 2 paragraphs on your research

experience using each technology.
1. How do you think this technology will (or will not) change the
way people learn within your subject area?
2. What are some of the shortfalls of this technology currently?
What advancements (technologic or otherwise) are needed for
this technology to reach its potential to transform the way we
learn?
3. Describe how this technology might be utilized (for good or
bad) outside of its original intended purpose? Do you foresee
anything we should be wary of?

I believe using the artificial intelligence, such as the Nintendo lab or

the google vision technologies, will greatly change the way students
can learn. By enabling interactive touch or sight with the aid of such
intelligence, it’ll further enhance the way one can understand from
different perspectives. It can be utilized in many different ways such
as in sociobiology and understanding the psychology of animals
attractions to the use of baits using the Nintendo lab. Or perhaps,
the use of google vision to understand one’s facial feature, and
possibly associating them to those such as pathological liars or
criminals.

Some shortfalls of the technology would be the system that they use
and the restrictions of use with the connection to the internet and
such. With the use of A.I., they must require some sort of
connection to wifi, and thus the system could be a heavy technical
difficulty as it is a large service which can inhibit other consoles that
may need the internet.

IGNITED LABS TECHNOLOGY AREA (XR)

The extended reality application I chose to explore was the Oculus
Rift and the Merge cube. I had chosen those technologies because I
had heard of the app before and had always to try it out.

I believe with the addition of this technology, It will definitely

improve the ability to gain new insights on perceiving the functions
of using the mind and thoughts for all or some living beings. Not just
the being able to experience unseen areas before but studying the
subject as they o through those phases or stimulated situations can
further increase research purposes.

Some shortfalls of course would be accurate readings of the subject,

as I had mentioned above, it is a stimulated subject which cannot
compare to true situations, as the subject will be made aware of the
project is untrue, artificial, and therefore their responses can be
variable according to their conscious of the research given. Although
the oculus does provide many new opportunities to see, experience,
and be in such drastically different events, it also poses as a big
expense and mustn’t be relied upon for actual conduction of study
findings.

IGNITED LABS TECHNOLOGY AREA (IOT)

The application I had chosen to explore was the Sphero balls. I

chose this app due to its simple yet amazing function to connect to
any device and follow the instructions given, which could be

monitored and measured through the data given in real time
interaction from the compatible device.

The use of Sphero balls within a psychology class may not be ideal
however, when broken down it can actually be useful in perhaps
crating or adding functions to the Sphero ball, especially in perhaps
when doing studies of children or animals that are attracted to the
ball, especially when it moves or lights up. It can be a good form of
lure or a research tool to study with other participants as well.

Its shortfalls include being a sphere shaped “robot”, thus coming in

just a few select sizes as well as being just its kept shape. I believe
there could be more potential for the technology to do to have more
functions added to it, or perhaps be able to be personalized with
other gadget, such as cameras, speakers, a mic or anything of the
sort. It’s shell also seems to be quite delicate so it should be
forewarned that it could also prove to be a mess or chocking and slip
hazard.

RESEARCH CONCLUSIONS

Upon my visit to the ignited lab, I had found a multitude of

technology that ‘ve never heard of yet or had yet to try. It was a
little nerve wrecking as I, although did some research on these
applications, hadn’t really used any to approve of any of these uses
within a classroom, especially for the subject of interest I had
chosen, which was psychology. As, in psychology, there’s not a lot of
technology that are used in the field, as it mostly requires conducting
studies on people through observation. However, by using these
technologies, it’ll definitely be a game changer. To clarify, some of
the robotics were somewhat irrelevant as to its literally purpose
within the psychology field, but they still were able to provide some
sort of use.

Take for example, the oculus, which was my personal favorite.

It will be an extremely positive addition of the conduction of studies,
as it can be used to put people, or a person, into any situation or
event, without any worries of any harm or danger. Its technological
hookups can be personalized to include brain scanning as a helmet,
or even adding a camera inside the oculus goggles, so as to that to
record the conductus facial expressions. With such machinery, it’ll
revolutionize an easier way of scanning faces and getting real time
info from the wear, rather than having to wait and see for the
results. So much can be made just from these simple technologies
its amazing.

PERSONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Replace this text with 1-2 paragraphs describing your own
experience exploring the three emerging technology areas. How
would you describe your own learning with / through / about those

5
technologies? Do you feel you learn better / worse / the same
through these technologies?

After using the technologies, I am satisfied to say that I look

forward to using these in the future, and I hope to incorporate these
into my classroom someday. It was nice being able to learn
something new and be able to gain new experience as well. I came
to find many interesting engineering and robotics behind each and
every technology as well, which was very cool and unique. I learned
a lot going to the ignited lab. Learning through these would be such
an eye-opener, and challenges me to discover new ways to learn,
and to teach. From virtual reality, to 3d printing or even using Lego
pieces to create a stimulated visual that not only enhances my
creativity, but also encouraged me to expand my knowledge about
how sound and light react together, or how to study and recognize
facial expressions. It was delightful and I will continue going to the
ignited lab to learn more.
