Activity The learning activity is using the interactive smartboard lesson
to virtually travel Shakespeare’s England, his poetry, language,
and background
Instructor: Introduce the text Romeo and Juliet, its background
and its author
Student: Take notes and write down questions before lesson
Instructor/Students: Begin interactive smartboard lesson on
Shakespeare
- Click on Shakespeare to show a funny, brief video intro
video
- Discuss the map on the next slide, ask students where
on the map do they think Shakespeare is from
- Have different students come up to the board to roll
over the interactive timeline to see movies, pictures,
and websites related to Shakespeare’s life and then try
to interpret them to the class
- Have the students do the same thing on the next slide
but this time it has a list of plays, sonnets and 2 book
length poems
- Have 3 different students come to the board 1. Click the
globe to take a 3-d tour 2. Click Shakespeare film to
watch a Kennedy center video about the globe 3. Click
the camera to see photos of the reconstructed Globe
- Give the students a few minutes to try to label the globe
on the next slide: let 1 student at a time to come to the
board and write on the globe
- Ask the students their favorite movie and ask them how
they think it differs from the Elizabeth theatre

- Discuss the differences between modern movies and

- Discuss Shakespeare’s language and watch the 2 clips
- Choose a partner and choose option 1, 2, or 3 for the
assignment.
