Portfolio Artifact Description: Celebrity Gossip Newspaper – create a fictional newspaper using
classmate’s articles and become the editor of your own newspaper.

What you learned: This assignment was a lot of fun. It was very interesting to read everyone’s
contributions. The biggest hurdle for me was editing my peers’ work. I tried to keep the
integrity of their ideas, while enhancing the article. I also found the formatting a little
challenging. It was difficult to get the articles properly aligned so that everything fit neatly on
the page.

Application of Skills Learned for the Future: I think this would be a great assignment
to incorporate as part of a creative writing class. The opportunity to read peers’ work
will help enhance creativity amongst pupils. As a student myself, we rarely get to read
multiple peers’ perspectives on an assignment. I think the assignment can be adjusted
by changing the topic (as opposed to celebrities) perhaps superheroes, or something
else more child friendly.
