FOREWORD

At its date of publication, this standard is in conformity with French Standard NF T 58-000.

1. SCOPE

This standard defines dimensional and geometrical tolerances measured in the free condition for
injection and derived technology (bi-injection, co-moulding) thermoplastic and heat-hardenable
mouldings, or compression and derived technology (transfer, compression injection) mouldings.

The data below (tolerances and classes) shall be entered on the drawing in accordance with the
explanations of paragraph 4.2.

2. FIELD OF APPLICATION

This standard applies only to plastic parts for which there are no specific dimensional tolerances
standards.

Families of materials covered by this standard are given in the tables in the Annex; these are divided
into 3 categories. The designation of these materials conforms with Standard 1043-1 "Plastics -
Symbols – Basic polymers and their specific characteristics ". This standard does not apply to cellular
expanded or lightened plastics.

3. GENERAL

The tolerance values in tables 1 to 3 of paragraph 5.1., 5.2. and 5.3., are given according to :

- the category of material selected,

- the value of the dimension considered,

- the required tolerance class (normal, tight, precision),

- the position of the part in the tooling (dimension not including the jointing plane or the slide
plane).

These values are valid only for manufacturing tolerances on finished parts only and do not apply to:

- deformations associated with the parts and their positioning,

- flashes.

These values do not include dimensional variations related to post-shrinkage, post-crystallization,

recovery of humidity, thermal expansion or ageing.

The dimensions are measured on the part in the free condition after cooling (24 hours minimum after
moulding) in a reference atmosphere of 23 °C ± 2 °C and 50 % ± 5 % relative humidity (R.H.).

If the part is to undergo stabilization treatments (annealing or humidity recovery), according to the
agreement between the Supplier and RENAULT, the dimensions are measured after treatment.

The measurement conditions may differ if an agreement is reached between RENAULT and the
Supplier.

The shape and position tolerances are not covered by this standard. If necessary, these are to be
agreed upon with the material transformer and in compliance with existing standards.

4. DEFINITIONS OF DIMENSIONAL TOLERANCE CLASSES - CHOICE GUIDE

4.1. TOLERANCE CLASSES

Production of plastic parts can be made according to three main tolerance classes:

- Normal tolerances: variation obtained at cost of reduced production and facility supervision;

- Tight tolerances: variation obtained by rigorous supervision of production and facilities: this
tolerance class costs more than the normal class;

- - Precision tolerance: variation obtained by:

. the use of precision machines,

. costly tooling design,

. employment of qualified personnel,

. enhanced supervision of production and facilities,

with heavy risk of scrapping or sorting.

There are 2 levels for each class (A and B) depending on whether the dimension considered includes
or does not include a jointing or slide plane. For a better understanding of the jointing planes, refer to
Code of Practice 90-00-324 "Quality of jointing planes on injected plastic parts".

4.2. INDICATIONS TO BE GIVEN ON FUNCTIONAL DRAWINGS AND PART DRAWINGS

Enter indications on functional drawings and part drawings only if the type of material is stated, and for
plastic mouldings only.

Tolerances applicable to non-toleranced dimensions on the drawing are those of the class chosen
(normal, tight or precision).

On the part drawing, indicate next to the title block :

- "general class tolerances ... (normal, reduced or precision, to be specified) according to

Standard 01-20-801".

If it is necessary to render some dimensions more or less stringent with respect to the chosen class,
the new tolerances shall be indicated on the drawing after agreement between the parties involved, for
the dimension(s) concerned, in accordance with the requirements of ISO Standard 406, or in the form
of lifting of a reserve, in accordance with Standard 00-10-112 "Location and identification of
reservations on drawings and change orders".

If the material used is not listed in the tables of the annex, enter "category ... " ; the choice of category
is then made jointly by RENAULT and the Supplier: category 1, 2 or 3.
