Differentiated Instruction

This book talks about the importance of implementing social issues into the mathematics
curriculum. It also explains the manner in which we can integrate mathematics into other
subject areas. This book is useful in the classroom because it offers various instructional
methods. Along with offering these instructional methods, it also offers various lesson
plans that we can use in the classroom.

This article explains the importance of designing lessons plans that include ways in which
we can use manipulatives in our instruction. This article also explains the various benefits
for all students to use manipulatives in the mathematical classroom. Manipulatives assists
students in easier understanding the various concepts being examined. I can us this article
in my classroom because I can provide manipulatives to all of my students to assist them
in understanding the various concepts that we are learning.
Villegas, A. M., & Lucas, T. (2002). Preparing culturally responsive teachers: Rethinking the
curriculum. Journal of Teacher Education, 53(1), 20-32.
This article assists teachers in adapting to the diverse world around them. It prepares
teachers to be culturally responsive. In other words, it explains that teachers should
understand the diverse background of each student. I can use this article in the classroom
because I can use it to first underhand my students before I begin teaching my lesson plan.

This article explains that note taking can be a problem for many students with special
needs. It also explains the many benefits for having accommodations for students. Not
only do students with special needs benefit from this accommodation but every regular
education student does as well. I can use this article in my classroom because I can
differentiate my instruction by providing note taking guides or other accommodation to
the entire classroom to allow for all my students to succeed.

Collaboration

This book provides a guide in which it explains the manner to collaborate and co-teach
between the general education teacher and the ELL teacher. The purpose of this book is to
better serve the needs of ELL students through collaboration. It also provides a framework
for implementing effective co-teaching models to better instruct ELL students. I can use
this book in my classroom because I can better serve my ELL students by the various co-
teaching models.
Concept Based Learning
Wathall, J. T. H. (2016). Concept-based mathematics: teaching for deep understanding in
secondary classrooms. US: Corvin.
This book explains the manner in which teachers can take a relook at their mathematical
instruction. This book explains the importance of teaching concepts rather than
mathematical processes. By doing so, we can assist students in discovering their own
mathematical abilities. I can use this book in my classroom because I can develop new
meaningful ways to teach mathematics in order to help students achieve higher-order
thinking skills.

This book explains the importance of allowing our students to apply their knowledge
outside the classroom as well. It explains that we must also be active learners. We can also
integrate various practices to better enhance student learning. I can use this book in my
classroom by allowing students to be active learners. I can have students apply their
knowledge in various activities such as group projects.

This book explains the importance of students understanding the manner in which
professionals of various disciplinary areas use literacy. This book goes above the standard
notion of learning. It describes the manner in which we can expand on our knowledge to
develop new ideas of certain topics. I can use this book in my mathematical classroom
because I can have students understand the importance of being more accurate with a
mathematical solution than elaborating their reasoning.
McAlonan, S., Hotchkiss, H., & Urich L. (1994). Bringing standards to life: A “how to” guide to
contextual learning and curriculum integration. Denver, CO: Colorado State Department
of Education.
This source outlines the various manners to foster contextual learning. It also describes the
various ways in which educators can integrate the curriculum into the classroom. I can use
this source in the classroom because I can use it to have students apply their knowledge to
real-life examples that relate to the topics that we are covering.

understanding by design. US: ASCD.
This book is a tool for educators to connect content to students in meaningful ways. This
book assists educators by providing structures and other tools to further assists them in
developing instruction that will lead to effective teaching the students. I can use this book
in my classroom when I would like to discover different methods in which I can integrate
the interests of students into my curriculum.
