Plate versus pipe under tolerance

POSTED IN the pipe or plate mill undertolerance.

CONSTRUCTION

EDIT Pipe mill under tolerance is generally 12.5%. so that

means that you can receive files whose thickness
would be less than 12.5%. in order to make sure
that this thickness does not fall below the code
minimum thickness you need to to add this
thickness over and above your corrosion allowance
and achieve the nominal thickness. To explain
through an example let’s say that the minimum
thickness of a pipe comes to be 0.25 inches and
the corrosion allowance is 0.04 inches. So we get
0.29 inches and this value has to be divided by
0.875 to account for 12.5% Bill under tolerance.
This comes out to be 0.33 inches. Now we will have
to select the next pipe in the series which will be
schedule 40 or 0.365 inches.

plate mill under tolerance is slightly different. It

needs not to be accounted in design the way pipe
min under tolerance has to be accounted.
