Management Reporting

Management reporting is that part of Management Control System which provides adequate
business information to various levels of Management in the form of Reports and statements
at regular Intervals. It is a formal system designed to ensure timely supply of pertinent
information to Management. The reporting to management can also be called as management
reporting or internal reporting. They collect data from various departments of the company
tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and present them in an understandable way. They
basically show the worth of your business over a specific time period by disclosing financial
and operational information. Management reporting provides insights on how the company is
doing, empowering decision-makers to find the right path to increase operating efficiency and
make pertinent decisions to remain competitive.

In order to make a good management reporting system, one should have Proper Form,
Contents, Promptness, Accuracy, Comparability, Consistency. The report should be presented
with relevant data to disclose the fact in unambiguous terms. Because, inclusion of both the
relevant and the irrelevant data in the management reports may result in faulty decisions. The
report should be as far as possible in simple form. In other words, the report should avoid
technical jargons, duplication of work and presented in a simple style. The system should be
capable of being adjusted according to the requirement of the users.

effectiveness, more efficient use of resources in the delivery of organization services, increased
confidence in the quality of management decisions by agency staff, and improved
responsiveness to issues as they arise.

 Gather information (Primary data: Interviews, surveys, experiments, and observation


and Secondary data)

 Analyse the data

 Write the report (length of importance): Formal (Memo Report or Letter Report) and
Informal (Trip or expense report, etc.)
