Perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.

2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to "walk out" and
then quickly remove the plug again.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1
inch away from its normal resting place.
4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle
5. Please ensure that the current firmware update (20021018W) is installed. You
can download and install the same from the link given below:

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng/support.html

Please follow the steps provided below to download the driver:

1. Click on the option "download drivers and software".

2. Enter "LaserJet 3300mfp" in the search box and press enter key.
3. Select Cross operating system (BIOS, Firmware, Diagnostics, etc).
4. Click HP LaserJet 3300mfp firmware update for windows.

NOTE: To ensure an easy and successful upgrade, it is essential to read and

follow the instructions below.

CAUTION: Disconnect all devices except the HP LaserJet 3300 that are directly
connected to the computer before performing the Firmware upgrade.

Make a copy of any document either through the automatic document feeder

Verify that the computer has 50 MB of free disk space in order to successfully
run the Firmware Update Utility.

The utility can run using either a parallel or a USB connection (USB is not
supported in Windows 95 or NT):

If using a USB cable, it is important to first install the HP LaserJet 3300 MFP
series software before running the utility (the USB ports and connection are
established during the software install).

If using a parallel cable, simply attach the cable and the utility will find the
connection automatically.

Save the setup of the unit if a large number of speed dials or other special
configurations have been entered.

• Método de limpieza sencillo

1. Open the printer lid (i.e., so that you are looking at the big glass panel).

2. Walk the scanner light thing all the way to the left by doing the following: (a)
turn the printer off; (b) turn it on; (c) wait about 30 seconds until the light moves
an inch to the left; (d) turn the printer off; and (e) repeat ten or fifteen times until
scanner light thing has moved all the way to the left hand side.
Or you can use the finger method; pull the scan bar over to the access window
by its drive belt ;-)

3. Remove the screw on the left hand side of the top of the printer that holds in
the small and obviously removable glass panel, and take the panel out. The
scanner light thing should be directly below the opening, which makes you think
this is why the opening is there.

4. Take some q-tips, dip them in rubbing alcohol, reach down and gently clean
the long mirror that you can see through the gap in the scanner light thing, also
clean the bulb (white thing on top, be careful not to break it), and anything else
that looks dirty. Then take dry q-tips and dry the mirror and bulb.

5. Replace the glass panel.

6. Wait about a minute, or until you think the mirror and bulb are dry, and then
print, fax, and copy until your heart's content.

Anyway, if you happen to have the expertise to do the thorough

cleaning/disassembly part exposed in this thread, by all means do it, you should
probably get a longer lasting result. None of this works of course in the case
your scanner unit is phisically KAPUT. Then the answer is ....HP parts P/N:
C9124-60103... God forbid !

HP LaserJet 3330 Scanner Unit Disassembly Procedure

This is not an Hewlett Packard document, the author does not work for Hewlett
Packard and is not responsible for any damage you do to your printer. This
procedure is for skilled repair technicians and is not recommended without some
knowledge of equipment repair. Proceed at your own risk.

1. Open the document feeder and pull up on the two black tabs on the left and
right.
2. Pull up on the right part of the doc feeder then the left, remove doc feeder, set
aside.
3. Open front door and rear fuser door.
4. Remove screw closest to teal colored fuser release levers. (right side cover
screws)
5. Pull right cover out from back while releasing clip on bottom of cover, pull
cover towards the back and remove.
6. Push on indentation at back of left cover and pull out at back, this cover is
hinged.
7. Remove four screws now visible on the sides at the base of the scanner assy.,
two on the left two on the right.
8. Slide covers towards back and remove.
9. Remove two screws in the back just above the fuser and just below the scanner
assy. base. Remove two screws at the front, (on the sides) visible now after
removing the scanner assy. base covers on the right and left (the left one is just
behind the hinged cover near the top hinge.)
10. Remove flat ribbon cable (on left side) at either connection point to disconnect
scanner assy. from print engine.
11. Entire scanner assembly can now be slid forward and removed.
12. Close the front, rear and left side doors on the print engine portion and set it
aside.
13. Grab front panel face plate at top and pull forward and remove. (or pry gently at
top of face plate).
14. At top of exposed front panel you will see four slots in the scanner assy. At the
third one from the left there is a latch (dark grey plastic). Push down on the
latch with a screwdriver and slide the whole panel assy. to the right. Lift up and
out making sure to disconnect the cable.
15. Remove the three screws in the now exposed dark grey front panel cradle and
cover, remove the two cables connecting the cover to the main board, pry gently
at the top outer corners of the cover and pull it forward and down, remove the
cover.
16. Turn the scanner over and remove the four scanner assy. screws (one and the
center front, center back, center right, center left) all are facing down under the
assy.
17. Turn the unit back upright and remove the four screws at the back/top (two of
them are down inside where the doc feeder normally goes.) Remove the top
scanner cover position. Note: When putting the top cover back on double check
to make sure the scanner belt is not twisted.
18. DANGER your about to work on the scanner carriage itself there is a really
good chance that you could break it or the mirrors or bulb so proceed at
your own risk.

19. At the top and bottom left side of the black cover enclosing the mirrors are two
slots, if you put a small screwdriver in the slots and push gently to the right and
lift that side of the cover it should come loose. Then open it to the right and
remove it from the right slots.
20. Remove the black screw at the front of the assy., Disconnect the white wires
from the CCD board and out of the harness, lift the clear plastic bulb holder out
with the bulb then remove it from the rear. (it’s a tight fit at the front.)
21. The top mirror is held in by some really tight clips they have to be removed
from the bottom right (clean the mirrors without this step if possible). NOTE:
optical mirrors are not like a bathroom mirror, there is no glass covering the
reflective surface. The back side of the mirror has glass covering it so if you get
it in backwards it won’t work. (The way to tell which side you have is touch
your screwdriver to the mirror and if it’s the right side the screwdriver will
appear to touch the reflection of the screwdriver, if it’s the wrong side the
screwdriver will not touch the reflection of the screwdriver because of the glass
covering the reflective surface.
22. Now clean the remaining mirrors and lens very thoroughly with alcohol. Make
sure they are very clean. You can put the top mirror back and clean it in place to
make cleaning it easier.
23. When re-assembling the top cover check to make sure the white strip on the
right side is clean.
24. Reverse procedure for re-assembly.
25. Just one more note: The lens and mirrors have to be very clean especially the
lens. And the scanner top has to been back on the unit so the scanner can read
the white reference strip. Also check the white reference strip to make sure it is
not dirty. The symptom of dirty mirrors is either the carriage just stays to the
right and moves back and forth and eventually times out. Sometimes if you keep
turning the unit off and on the carriage will gradually creep to the left but never
come to ready. Some machines display both these symptoms some just one. Of
course a weak bulb or bulb power source can also cause the error because the
CCD (charge coupled device) never get the proper amount of light to signal the
cpu that it is ready.

Notas:
emulado)
