CAN OVERVIEW

CAN (Controller Area Network) communication is a serial data communication for real time
application . It is a multiplex communication system with high communication speed . The ECU's
and Sensors in the network are connected by two communication bus lines CAN High and CAN Low.
The communication happens based on the differential voltage of CAN High and CAN Low. All the
nodes ( ECU's and Sensors) which are in the CAN network transmit and receive large quantities of
data at high speed . The CAN has two terminating resistors of 120Ω each.

The terminating resistors are used to match the impedance of the CAN wires to enable high speed
communication. It also prevents high speed communication signals from being reflected back into the
CAN wires and causing electrical interference.

The following are the nodes (ECU's & Sensors) in XUV500 CAN network.

1. EMS ECU
2. ABS/ESP EHCU
3. ITM ECU
4. SAS
5. IC
6. MBFM
7. SRS ECU
8. HVAC ECU
9. IS
10. SC
11. RPAS ECU

Out of the two terminal resistors, one is in the EMS ECU and the other one is beneath the LH rear
quarter trim , nearer to RPAS ECU.

The repair methods given by the manufacturer in this document are based on the technical specifications, current at the time of release. The methods may be modified as a result of changes introduced by the

WARRANTY & OTHER INFORMATION

All failures/complaints encountered on ECU’s should be reported through Service Complaint Report
(SCR).Replacement of any of the ECU’s requires approval of the TEKline. Ensure that a TAR is
raised# in the TEKnet website for approval, attaching the SCR. While raising a warranty claim, the
TAR no should be quoted on the warranty claim.

# Only a trained and certified CoTEK can raise a TAR (in TEKnet website)
