Upcoming Events
Halloween
Our party will begin at 10:00a.m. Families are
welcome to attend. Sign in at the office and meet
in the classroom. After the party, we will be having
a pizza lunch in the classroom. Please send in
$1.50 for your child by 10/24/19. We will change
into our costumes after eating. The parade will
begin at 12:10p.m. Dismissal at 12:45.
Reader’s Workshop
This week our focus was on thinking about pictures and words to
read our books. Another focus was sharing our reading and
thinking with others. Here are some of our daily reading targets
for reading.
- Readers can read the text by connecting what is
repeated in the pictures and words using the word
THEN…
- Readers can make plans for their time together by
taking turns talking and reading.
- Readers can choose what to talk about; acting out the
characters or teaching informational text.
- Readers use familiar parts and words they know to help
others read on.
Phonics Workshop
Please review: the, I, a, me, my, like. Try using these snap words
at home.

How to Learn a Word:
1. Read it (Read the word.)
2. Study it (What do you notice? Uppercase, lower
case, vowels, consonants, number of letters.)
3. Spell it (Cheer the letters out loud.)
4. Write it (Use your finger to write it in the sky.)
5. Use it (Ask your child to write the word on a sticky
note, label something in your home, or draw a
picture).
Writer’s Workshop
We began our third unit, “Label and List”. In this unit, students will
collect, observe, and study bits of their world. Some examples
are: leaves, shells, buttons, etc. As a scientist, we can make
meaningful observations by looking, touching, listening, and looking
again. We can sketch our observations and add labels to our
drawings. We can draw and label exactly what we see. This will
help teach others about what we have observed and learned.
Math Workshop
We finished up Unit 1 and started working on Unit 2. In this unit
we will be focusing on numbers 6-10 using 5 groups. Ask your
child to show you the number 6 on his/her fingers (5 and 1), 7 (5
and 2) and so on. Have your child build numbers 6-10 using
cheerios, legos or any other small items you have at home.
