 a la serie CUADERNOS PRÁCTICOS DE AJEDREZ
Ldácticos en el tratamiento de posiciones,
a teoría trata de establecer modelos di­
o en el estudio de los distintos temas técni­
cos, pero la práctica se encarga de crear el
caos con su diversidad.
Los manuales Escuela de Ajedrez ( 1 y
2) tienen una marcada orientación práctica,
como lo demuestra el hecho de que, además
de las numerosas posiciones comentadas en
el cuerpo principal, ambos libros contengan
un bloque adicional de 160 y 128 ejercicios,
respectivamente.
No obstante, el esfuerzo por sistematizar
el material reduciéndolo a modelos válidos,
en aras de la mejor orientación didáctica
posible, no basta para que el jugador pueda
captar la variedad y riqueza del ajedrez de
competición.
Esta iniciativa editorial responde a la ne­
cesidad del jugador activo de cultivar un en­
trenamiento sistemático, y estos cuadernos,
con 128 ejercicios cada uno y tres niveles de
dificultad, contribuirán a resolver ese aspec­
to, porque vienen a ser parques temáticos,
con posiciones que amplían aspectos mono­
gráficos desarrollados teóricamente en los
manuales.
Cada cuaderno estará dividido en seccio­
nes, y los ejercicios de éstas son calificados

con una, dos o tres estrellitas, según el grado
de dificultad, conforme a la técnica emplea­
da en Escuela de Ajedrez (1 y 2), Enciclope­
dia de la Táctica y El Método 64 de entrena­
miento en ajedrez.
Medir la dificultad de un ejercicio no es
fácil. No sólo porque la valoración objetiva
sea en sí misma difícil, sino porque el grado
de dificultad es distinto para cada persona.
La aspiración de estos cuadernos es llegar al
más amplio número posible de ajedrecistas,
pues sólo así se justificará su publicación. En
términos generales, creo que el tiempo de re­
solución debe ser de:
• Primer nivel ( 1 estrella)
1-3 minutos
• Segundo nivel (2 estrellas)
5-l O minutos
• Tercer nivel (3 estrellas)
10-20 minutos
El tiempo de reflexión no tiene por qué
ser excesivamente riguroso. Los autodidac­
tas pueden guiarse por esta estimación orien­
tadora, mientras que (como ya se ha sugerido
en Escuela de Ajedrez) lo ideal es que, en su
caso, el instructor asigne a un grupo de ju­
gadores o a un jugador determinado el tiem­
po exacto que considere oportuno para cada
ejercicio o bloque de ejercicios.

Como ya se ha dicho en el Cuaderno n° 13, a
las aperturas se dedicaron dos capítulos (1 y
9) en Escuela de Ajedrez 2.
El estudio de las aperturas es cada vez
más importante, porque la primera fase de la
partida puede constituir un territorio mina­
do para el jugador desprevenido. Hoy día, la
apertura no se cierra en ocho o diez jugadas,
sino que, en algunos casos, se prolonga hasta
la jugada veinte o veinticinco. Variantes de
la Siciliana Dragón o la Siciliana Najdorf,
el Ataque Marshall o la Defensa Sernieslava
están analizadas incluso más allá, sea la lu­
cha propia de la apertura propiamente dicha
o de su conexión directa con el medio juego.
Los matices han ido cobrando gran pro­
tagonismo en el ajedrez actual. Así, hoy no
se trata tanto de plantear trampas mortales
como de concebir secuencias más o menos
forzadas que reporten ventaja a uno u otro
bando.
En estos ejercicios se indica, en la mayo­
ría de los casos, la última jugada, que debe
ser un error o una imprecisión. En las solu­
ciones, el lector encontrará las jugadas que
han llevado a la posición del diagrama, junto
con el nombre de la apertura y el código de
la variante, y casi siempre la alternativa a la
jugada errónea.

Para progresar en ajedrez sólo se conoce una fórmula: jugar el mayor número posible de
torneos, junto con el estudio teórico y el análisis de las propias partidas. El complemento
ideal de esa fórmula es, como recomiendan muchos grandes maestros, que el jugador desa­
rrolle y perfeccione su capacidad táctica y estratégica, mediante la resolución de numerosos
ejercicios, especialmente seleccionados por su utilidad. Como los que aquí le ofrecemos.

SIGNOS CONVENCIONALES

En ajedrez se utiliza una serie de signos, universalmente aceptados, para complementar o mati­
zar el valor de una jugada, o bien para evaluar posiciones. Los principales, empleados a lo largo
de la obra, son éstos:
