BETRAYAL:

You are hiding under your bed because your older sibling is looking for you since you stole their
favorite pair of shoes. You are trying to keep quiet, so they do not find you, when suddenly your
nose begins to itch. You try to scratch it to make it go away, but instead you deeply inhale and
sneeze into your sleeve. Unfortunately for you, your sibling hears and barges into your room,
pulling you out from under your bed.

You really like the new kid in school—he’s so friendly and always smiles at you when he strolls
past your locker. You crush on them from afar for some time before deciding to tell your best
friend. Your friend, after hearing your secret, becomes so giddy and spends the next few days
giving you suggestive stares and jokingly teasing you. A week later, rather than just strolling by
and smiling at you, your new kid crush approaches you at your locker. He remarks, “Hey, your
friend told me that you might have a crush on me, but I’m in a relationship. Sorry”. A flood of
emotions washed over me—but most of all I was angry.

The Lion King--Scar, Mufasa’s brother, pushes Mufasa off a cliff so he can be even closer to
becoming King.

You’re playing Apex with two randomly chosen teammates. You encounter an enemy team,
mark them, and advance toward them with your weapon out. As you approach you see it’s a
full team and call out that you’re going to engage. You get the high ground, aim at one enemy
looting a crate and fire! You fight hard and get two squad members down, but the final
teammate sneaks up behind you and demolishes all your health. He doesn’t let you crawl away
and hide so your team can clean up the rest, instead he finishes you off and picks up his
teammates. When you switch to your teammates view so you can see how they are fighting,
you realize they both left you to catch a supply drop.

CONFORMITY:

Social norms vary around the globe. If you’re an American, it’s socially normal to greet someone
with a handshake or a hug. You are traveling to Spain next month and know that their social
norm when greeting someone are small kisses on each cheek. Instead of greeting people in
Spain with a handshake you decide to adapt their mannerisms when you go abroad.

Mean Girls—When Regina George, the popular girl, has holes cut in her shirt because someone
is trying to sabotage her, the rest of the girls in school copy her.
In class your teacher asks, “Please raise your hand if you would like a break”. You observe your
classmates before you make your own decision. Even though you do not really want a break
because you’d rather get the lesson over while you’re in the zone, most of your classmates
raise their hands, so yours goes up too.

You are extremely passionate about writing. You have several journals, unfinished chapters,
and lots and lots of pieces of poetry. It’s senior year of high school and your family asks your
where you’re going to apply to school as you sit around the dinner table. Your grandfather was
a highly skilled engineer, your mother is lab technician at a hospital, and your siblings are both
high school chemistry teachers—science runs in the family! Feeling the judgement of those who
are not too fond of the arts, I decide to apply to California Institute of Technology.

INTEGRITY:

I rushed out my front door and down the street to my new position as a clerk for a teller’s
office. Several people walked past me, but only one caught my eye. A young mother struggled
to hold her small child in a car seat, a large shopping bag, and her second child’s hand. I looked
just in time for the woman to drop her bag onto the sidewalk and split open. I looked around
for a second and saw no one coming to her aid as she began to cry. Even though I knew if I
stopped to help her, I would be late, but my conscious would eat me up inside if I did not. I
maneuvered though the crowd, picked up a few of her things, and flashed her a smile.

As I was next to my locker chatting with a few of my friends, I overheard slamming noises down
the hall. We saw a tall, bulky 8th grader standing over a pile of books and binders that covered a
small, shaking 6th grader. The 8th grader knelt down, shoving a finger in the 6th grader’s face,
and sternly said, “Don’t you EVER get in my way again or next time it will be much worse”. The
8th grader got up, looked around, and caught my eye. He stared at me with a look that said,
“You tell on me and this will happen to you too”. I quickly spun back around as my heart
skipped a beat. Once he was gone, I slowly turned back around to see the 6th grader quietly
sobbing as he picked up his things. I walked over to help him and knew that we both needed to
confess what had just happened to the principal.

Aladdin—As he walks down the street, he steals his next meal: a loaf of bread. He rips off a
piece and is about to take a bite when he sees a small orphan boy curled up on a staircase.
Aladdin looks at his loaf and back at the young boy. He hands what he thought was his next
meal to someone who needed it more.

REMORSE:

One of your family members calls to tell you that another family member you have not seen in
years passes away. You were supposed to make plans with them, but you were always too
booked to visit. Upon learning this news, you feel terrible and think, “keep your loved ones
close because you never know when you’ll have your last day with them”.

You hate the girl who sits next to you in history class. She is always telling you what to do and
you can’t stand looking at her happy, smiley face anymore. In an effort to get her to leave you
alone, you begin to spread some rumors around about her at lunch. A few days later, when she
sits down next to you, she doesn’t speak to you and you think, “Finally, this is working!”. A few
weeks later, you notice she cares less about her appearance and you catch a glimpse of her
writing terrible things about herself in her notebook. You look away and wonder if this was
because of you. You start to feel guilty and start telling people that you found out the rumors
weren’t true.

One of your friends invites you to go on a day-trip to one of the largest pools in America. You
are so excited to go, but you remember that you have work. Once you think it over you decide
that there are plenty of people employed there that can cover for you, so you put on your best
fake cough and call out sick. You have a blast with your friend at the park and are so thankful
you called out until you come home and see that your co-worker posted on Facebook about
how understaffed and stressful the day was. You instantly forget all about how much fun you
had and feel a stabbing sensation of guilt wash over you.

REDEMPTION:

You were once a corrupt investment banker on Wall St. but an anonymous tip to the NYPD led
to your arrest. You did the time for the deeds you did wrong and have decided to get back to
what you love on the right foot. You reach out to some trusted advisors and start fresh with
new clients to improve your reputation.

Your sitting on a bench, waiting for your bus, when you see a wallet lying on the ground with
some green edges popping out. You casually make your move, sit back down, slip the cash in
your pocket, and put your headphones in. Another few minutes go by and you see a man
running down the street looking disheveled. He stops in front of you and bends down to claim
the wallet, realizing that the money he once had was now gone. He frantically looks at everyone
around but realizes looking for money that was unattended is useless. He turns back from
where he came and now walks slow with his head held down. You take a minute to reflect but
can’t manage to keep the money you grabbed after seeing the victim and feeling his pain. You
jog to catch up with him and hand him what you took—feeling embarrassed that he knows it
was you, but better because he perks up thanks you for being honest.
