Introduction

1 Introduction

This instruction describes how to install and use the Element Management
Launcher.

The Element Management Launcher is a tool that is used to install and start
the available node management tools, for example the Element Management
Command Line Interface (EMCLI).

For each node, one or more node management tools are available.

1.1 Supported Client Environment

Table 1 describes the supported operating systems needed to run Element
Management Launcher.

Table 1 Supported Operating Systems

Operating System Version
Windows (American English) Vista
7
8

Note:
Due to compatibility issues between Windows 10 and Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) 8, EMCLI fails on Windows 10 with JRE 8.

As an alternative solution, use JRE 6 or 7.

1.2 Compatibility
A new generation of node types, which supports HTTPS, requires a
corresponding new version of the Element Management Launcher. This
version of Element Management Launcher contains support for both, old and
new node types. Therefore, it is recommended to replace any previous
Element Management Launcher installation with the new version.

2 Procedure

Follow the instructions, to do one of the following:

• Install Element Management Launcher

• Uninstall Element Management Launcher

• Start and Install a Node Management Tool

If the procedures are performed on-site, first follow the instructions in Connect
Client to connect the computer to the node.

2.1 Install Element Management Launcher

Element Management Launcher is a tool which is used to install and start the
node management tools. The Element Management Launcher installation
package is downloaded through a web page on the node.

The web-page is node management tool specific. It contains installation

instructions for the Element Management Launcher and programs which
enable the node management tool function. The installation package is part of
the Element Management application package on the node.

To install the Element Management Launcher, enter one of the following

addresses in a web browser and follow the instructions on the web-page:

• For nodes supporting HTTP, use http://<IP address>/em/

index.html

• For nodes supporting HTTPS, use https://<IP address>/em/

index.html

For a list of the different port numbers refer to EMCLI.

If off-site, use the IP address of a TN port. The IP address of the TN port is set
during integration.

Note: When accessing nodes supporting HTTPS, a trusted certificate must

be downloaded and installed on the client before connecting to the
node, as described in EMCLI.

2.2 Uninstall the Element Management Launcher

The Element Management Launcher is removed when the tool is uninstalled,
together with all other files created during the installation.
