E. Theory
A. Definition of Histoplasmosis
Histoplasmosis is a fungal infection of the lungs caused by inhaling the
fungal spores of Histoplasma capsulatum. These mold spores can be found on
the ground or in bird and bat droppings, and are most often transmitted through
the air.

B. Causes of Histoplasmosis
Histoplasmosis is caused by the fungus spores of Histoplasma
capsulatum. This fungus grows in moist soil that is rich in organic matter,
especially in bat, rat and poultry droppings, so that it is easily found in chicken
and bird cages, also in caves and parks.
Histoplasmosis occurs when mold spores on the ground fly in the wind
and are carried in the air, then enter the human respiratory system. A person can
be infected with histoplasmosis more than once, but generally the most severe
symptoms occur in the first infection. However, this infection does not spread
between people. Everyone can get histoplasmosis. However, some of the
following professions have a higher risk for exposure to fungal spores causing
histoplasmosis:
1. Pest control officer
2. Farmers and ranchers.
3. Gardeners
4. Cave explorer.

C. Signs and Symptoms of Histoplasmosis

Individuals who develop mild histoplasmosis generally do not
experience any symptoms, so they are not aware of being infected. However,
symptoms will appear if more mold spores are inhaled. Generally, symptoms
will appear 3 to 17 days after exposure, which include:
1. Fever.
2. Muscle pain.
3. Shortness of breath.
4. Headaches.
5. Dry cough.
6. Shivering.
7. Joint pain.
8. Rashes on the skin.

D. Prevent Histoplasma
Stay away from locations that have a risk of exposure to fungi that cause
histoplasmosis. Before farmers work, farmers are expected to wear masks.
