ABSTRACT
Executive Summary
some communities, fishing is the primary source of income and business for people.
Nonetheless, a number of industrial plants have been established in the coastal areas.
Although these companies pose benefits to the municipality and most of its people, its
harmful effects to many have also been alarming. Industrial company is a huge source of
pollution in different water bodies, produces pollutants that are extremely harmful to
people and the environment. Many industrial companies use freshwater to carry away
waste from the plant and into rivers, lakes and oceans. It is a major dilemma facing small
fishing communities. The idea that the ocean can run out of fish might seem implausible;

and as the people living there are experiencing it, it may be proven. Taking into
consideration all of these instances that the local fisherman are experiencing, the
researchers were encouraged to conduct this study. They aimed to gain in-depth
understanding of the lives of the thriving fishermen in the municipality of Calaca. With
this, awareness on their struggles may be raised which may eventually enlighten many
people on their significant role in the society and prompt the concerned authorities on

Most of the fishermen feel some danger in fishing some fishermen said that they
felt it when they need money they go fishing even if the weather is bad and risking their
life by catching fish in the restricted boundaries made by the industrial company.
The fishermen had the same perception that they cannot teach their son or
grandsons to catch fish in the future. Some fishermen said that they are not sure about the
future of fishing and some mentioned that they prefer to send their child or grandson to
school to study rather than to involve them in fishing activities, some fishermen also
point out that fishing is not financially stable to sustain their lives in the future.
