Globalization in Philippines

Some are saying we are living in “The age of migration”. As the international migration

reaches unprecedented levels today. This movement of people is as much a defining

attributes of globalization as movement of goods. services, and capital. Human migration

may have had it’s beginning since the earliest time. But at no time has it been at such

magnitude. Significantly demographic, economic and social cultures. And such alteration is

inevitable. Globalization is commonly used as shortcut of describing the trend and

connectedness of production, communication and technologies across the world. That spread

has involved the interlacing of economic and cultural activities. Rather confusingly.

Globalization is also used by some people to refer to the efforts of the International

Monetary Fund, The World Bank and others to create a free global market for goods and

services, The political project, while being significant. And potentially damaging for a lot of

poorer countries. Globalization in the sense of connectivity in economic and cultural life
across the world, has been going for centuries. However, many people believe the present

situation is of a fundamentally different order to what has gone before. The speed of

communication and exchange, the complexity and size of the networks involved, and the

sheer volume of economy, interaction and risk give what we now label as “globalization” a

particular force.

Since the 1970s, the Philippines has participated in international migration. Filipino

workers go not only to other Asian countries, but also to all other regions. Globalization has

come to be a principal characteristic feature of the nee millennium and it has become an

inescapable reality in today’s society. No community and society can remain isolated from

the force of globalization In the Philippines, globalization has brought many job

opportunities to all Filipino people. The government encourages foreign companies to

establish business and open many jobs to Filipino worker even abroad. The impact of

globalization helps the Philippines community to be more aware of what happens to the

Philippines, it also gives the idea to many Filipino people to have more knowledge and

information on the Philippines society. At present globalization is more effective in the

Philippines, it helps to improve the local and foreign companies, the culture, the education,

and the development of the economy. Globalization can have more opportunities to increase

in employment.

This advantage of globalization can help the Philippines to increase the employment of

Filipino people because of the opportunities that many foreign countries put up a

business here and many job vacancies for Filipino are available. There are a lot of

multinational companies who really open up business in the Philippines and hire many
Filipino people to work at their companies. Also, globalization has an advantage in opening

jobs in abroad. There is a lot of overseas Filipino worker who is work abroad and can be

successful in working in another country. Because of the World Trade Organization of the

nation, each person can work in a different country and have the opportunity to live there and

be a citizen in the country they live in. In the Philippines, foreign companies are build up

here and many Filipino is now working in foreign companies. This means that globalization

really affects positively to the Philippines and to the economy of the Philippines. It can also

help the Philippines education to improve more. In the Philippines when it terms of

education we improve more and we offer higher education and skilled people. The education

in the Philippines is now recognized outside the country. And many foreigners are going

here to study because the quality of education is higher while the cost is lower and can

accommodate all foreigner who wants to studies in the Philippines. One reason also is the

lower cost of living while studying here. The Filipino people are smart and can communicate

well to other foreigners. Speaking English in the Philippines is a natural language of Filipino

because it is one of the subjects of all schools. At present, the Philippines has a large

outsourcing foreign companies, especially in Metro Manila. It also improves the quality of

goods and services. Being connected to other country means good to our country. It helps to

do good quality and give the best services to them so that we bring dignity to the Filipino

people. Improving our services and give more quality goods and products to other countries

can boost the Philippines and its nation. The Philippines can offer a good quality product

outside the country and Filipino people can serve their best to others. Through globalization,

the service of goods and product is easily served and done to deliver it to each respective

destination.
Globalization should not be thought as a solution to everything. It merely provides

opportunities. Those who take advantage, they flourish and those who do not they sink.

Globalization is not supposed to produce equality of outcome but it produces equality of

opportunity for those with right mindset. Hence the developing countries have to focus on

economic restructuring building market supporting institution and creating efficient

regulatory mechanism.

Flight for conversation

In the flight of conversation article by Sherry Turkle, Turkle describes that the social life

of people in today’s generation is very different and people becoming anti social in some

terms. She talks about how technology affects people everywhere, from our colleagues to

young people who just avoid conversation with people by paying attention to their phone and

have earphones on. Turkle continues to talk about how we use technology to become who

we want to or at least use it to define ourselves. Turkle lastly talks about how we need to

look up from our phone and start a real conversation, and gives an example of how at Cape

Cod everyone there was on their phone. The author also explains how technology affect our

conversation through phones and devices that are very common and used in our society. She

explains that we are in the era together with our love ones but being alone because of lack in

communicating to one another. We value control over where we focus our attention. The

author explains that we forgot to be connected to one another. She said that we are in

generation where youth can’t express their feelings personally, but saying but saying their

feelings through posting in social media sites and don’t know how to socialize
I felt that it has a very good point. In today’s generation. Our world is not complete

when there is no technology around us. Because of that. We always think we can’t live

without technology for even 5 hours in a day. People need to practice the old fashion way for

our health and for our future. We are connecting through technology but it is also the one

that separate us to the society. We ignore others because we are always doing something

with technology. We always look at our phone and there is no way someone can be able to

deny that. The author said that we are more interacting through texting. Texting does not

make you see how the other person is really feeling. His/her face expression sometimes we

do not even understand what they are trying to say. It just isn’t the same as when we talk to

someone in person. There are fewer misunderstanding and more understandings because

reading a text has no emotions. We do not know what the true feelings when we are

communicating through text, chats and other platforms that are using mobile phones. We

have so many friends virtually on facebook, followers on twitter and instagram but are we

aware that we are having least of real and genuine friends not in virtual world but here in the

reality. We are escaping real world and escaping through technology. We are now afraid to

communicate face to face, where in fact it will teach us patience. It helps us to express our

feelings and to say what we want to another person.

Technology can also affect the quality of communication. One of the great benefits of

the Internet is its anonymity, allowing users to explore and communicate without having to

give away their personal details. Unfortunately, this can also lead to users behaving in ways

completely different than they would in a face-to-face conversation. When the Internet

reduces a person to a faceless screen name, it can make it hard for some users to remember

that an actual person exists behind the avatar, which can encourage hostility and

exclusionary behavior. Technology also can create elaborate social networks online, but
these can unexpectedly lead to social isolation. In some cases, communicating online

replaces face-to-face interaction for users, reducing the amount of time they actually spend in

the company of other human beings. In addition, these social networks sometimes replace a

small number of strong social connections with a larger number of much shallower

connections, leading to situations where a user may have large numbers of "friends" but few

actual real-world companions.
