The Phoenix Generation:
The Rise of Those Who Will
Change the World

The world we live in now is changing rapidly.

The normal state of affairs is not the static and
stationary that we sometimes view our lives to
be, but of flux and flow.

--- Kingsley Dennis, Ph.D.

 The "phoenix generation" will refuse to accept the belief
systems dogmatically maintained by current societies;
 they will exhibit a frame of reference beyond the box that has
been stifling us to date.
 The "phoenix generation" will have an altered perspective and
set of perceptions.
 They won't adapt to change -- they will be born as change.
 They are the fully-wired change agents needed to bring the new
social structures into being.
 They will also represent the new thinking -- the new
consciousness -- that will signify our new global societies.

Should Parents
Choose
their
Children’s
Career?
Madeilyn B. Estacio, PhD.
Career is important that impacts ones entire future

When the wrong career choices are made, the money and
time both go wasted
Ultimately, children have to work and not parents

The child may follow you out of emotions, but what if he or she is
not able to fulfil it due to lack of interest?

Every child is different and unique

Parents are the driving force – high influence

Sharf (2002; p.168) argued, “Adults are

important role models for children in
learning about the world of work”. Key
adult figures that serve the best example
to the child in learning about the work life
are parents.

Parental and societal pressure->

Children choose what they are not meant for  societal fake pressure
leads to making of wrong career choices

Peer pressure

PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIP
Anne Roe (1957)  argued that “the parent-child relationships play an
important role in occupation selection” (Santrock, 2001; p.442).

Three types of parent-child relationships:

1. Concentration on the child --the parents encourage dependence and
request perfection.
2. Avoidance of the child -- When the parents avoid the child they will be
either rejecting or in the worst case neglecting him/her
3. Acceptance of the child -- In the relationship where parents accept the
child, “parents encourage independence and create a tension-free
environment” (Sharf, 2002; p.318)

Beliefs and attitudes

Some pointers that could be used to convince
your parents when their expectation weighs you
down every time you try to pursue a career they
do not have clarity on.
• Be Clear About What You Want to
Accomplish
If you really want to convince your parents, then
be very clear about your goals and strategy to
accomplish them Madeilyn B. Estacio, PhD.
• Tell Them Why Knowing Aptitudes is Critical
Different aptitudes are required to excel in
different fields.

Madeilyn B. Estacio, PhD.

• Share the Good Examples in the Field Chosen by
You
successful people in the field
the kind of life you will have after adopting the
profession
your working hours
career progression
the amount of money you can make from it.
These will allow them to make an informed decision
and have the ASSURANCE they need.
