“The Other Side of Truth” is the story of two Nigerian children, Sade and

Femi, who are sent to London as refugees. The story includes real-life political
events that had happened in Nigeria, including the execution of the infamous
poet Ken Saro-Wiwa. Like Saro-Wiwa, the father in the story angered the
Nigerian authorities by criticizing them through his powerful writing.

The story starts with a traumatic and heartbreaking opening which is


Sade’s memory of hearing the two shots which ended her mother's life. And
that memory itself recurs throughout the novel in her thoughts and dreams.
Her memories of Nigeria was so much in contrast with her new experiences in
England.

After the shooting, Sade's Uncle Tunde urges her dad to send her and
her 10-year-old sibling Femi to security in Britain. They are compelled to pack
and leave all of a sudden and covertly. They fly to London acting like the
offspring of a more abnormal, Mrs Bankole, so they can go on her visa. At the
