Commitment to the Profession

Comments: Maryam was enthusiastic, firm, fun and fair .She was ready for her lesson and seemed
prepared.
Related well to learners, e.g. used humour appropriately and used learner’s names.

Planning for Learning
Comments:
The lesson was very well planned and suited the ability/needs of these students.

Questions/activities were carefully prepared to ease the students into each subsequent activity. Pre-
requisite knowledge was checked before doing an activity.

Provided plenty of praise and encouragement, and the students responded very well.
Maryam catered to all learning styles particularly the kinesthetic one where students were asked to
come to the board. This was by far the best part!

Managing Learning
Comments:

All the activities were suitable for all the students.

The lesson was broken logically into stages, and the planning was accurate in terms of timing and
content.

Maryam monitored the activities effectively and provided timed guidelines on SB.
She rewarded positive behaviour and ignored the inappropriate one, and this is usually rare for novice
teachers.
Implementing Learning
Comments:
Maryam tried, at all times, to use language that was appropriate for all the students in the class.
If a student did not understand, she rephrased accordingly. Her class is without doubt student-
centred.
Maryam used a variety of questioning techniques that elicited productive and active interaction with
the students.

Assessment
Comments:
Maryam ensured that every LT was evaluated by providing various worksheets. She provided
positive reinforcements and attended to each student. Students were involved, and post-teaching
activities were prepared and completed by the students. Questioning techniques and observing the
students’ work were additional methods for monitoring if her lesson was going well.

Reflection on Practice
Comments:

Action Plan:

Few spoken English mistakes

Isn’t it better to introduce addition in one lesson and subtraction in another? If this is a revision, then
fine, but if students are learning these concepts the first time, I assume this is a bit challenging for them.

Maryam, it was a real pleasure to be in your class. You set very clear expectations for the students. They
have plenty of opportunities to practice, extend and then express themselves in a variety of activities.

Overall, this has been a great lesson!
